I was trying to point to the reason why Seaby spent so much time in the WAFL this year: Lynch. Lynch is a forward but rucked well all year backing up big Cox. Carrying a second ruckman like Seaby who offered little value around the park wasn't on Worsfold's agenda, and it shouldn't be ours. As for the comparison to Pyke, one has been playing for years and won't get any better in terms of spacial awareness or engine power, whereas Pyke is an unknown quality - the guy's still learning the game. A hearty preperation for next year and he'll leave Seaby in the dust.
Then there's the idea that we have to trade for Seaby. We have to give up something for him, and I don't like the thought of that if he won't be needed after 6 months. It seems to be a very myopic decision to chase the country sandgroper.
Mike Pyke is a long way off and if you think he will leave Seaby 'in his dust' by next year, you are delusional, Mike is years away.Comment

Even when Cox went down, Seaby wasn't an option because of his desire to be traded at seasons end therefore Nick Natituie was the best option for the Eagles to move forward. That's what a lot of people don't understand, the guy isn't the best ruckman going around but if we can get our hands on him then by all means it will be a very handy pick up. His form hasn't been an issue, he spent most of this season in the WAFL but did play reasonably well according to most Eagles supporters.
I say stop the whinging and nagging because Seaby is going to be a great addition to this side to move forward.Forget about Hall, it's all about BradshawComment

Or are there other reasons why he wants out of West Coast?Comment

Club have $7.8 million to spend and must pay a minimum amount as well. With lists being only 38 and up to 1/3 of them full of young kids on minimum contracts then the money has to be spend somewhere.
If the reported figure for Seaby is correct that would be about what any 5 year listed player would be receiving across all 16 clubs.

Seaby pleaded with West Coast to trade him last year. He wasn't fussy where he went. He just wanted the chance to play senior footy. But no, he was under contract, supposedly a "required player" and hence they weren't going to entertain anything other than exhorbitant offers.
If they'd actually played him this season, especially when Cox became unavailable, maybe he'd be happy to stay now. But instead they chose to lead with the rawest of raw recruits who may well be a very exciting future prospect but has a huge way to go. Must have been a complete kick in the teeth to Seaby.
Indeed, if they thought he was a competent back-up ruckman, with many years left on his career, why not draft someone like Rich rather than Natanui in the first place? (It still puzzles me how Rich slipped as far as he did last year - there were no injuries worries as with Selwood - but that's another discussion.)
I'm not completely averse to the Swans recruiting Seaby. Jolly's effectiveness certainly appeared to suffer as 2009 wore on and he does need some help. But a three year deal for Seaby runs the risk of him becoming a list clogger in 12-24 months, especially if Currie comes on like we hope he will. Currie could play initially as a forward. (He's not a defender but plonked in the goal square could be effective.) But ultimately he has "ruckman" written all over him.
I am averse to the Swans even contemplating giving the Wet Toasters anything more than a 3rd rounder for him. I'd prefer to see them ask him to nominate for the PSD and us take our chances (though Richmond and Melbourne might well find him appealing if he comes that cheap). In general I think clubs deserve to be compensated for losing players but I don't think West Coast really deserve anything given their refusal to even play him.Comment

How can they be doing that as they must be soooooo close to salary cap..in order to keep their fantastic players such as Bateman and Wlliams.......some players and/or agents must be very poor at Maths if even I can work that out."The Dog days are over, The Dog days are gone" Florence and the MachineComment

Well of Course They Are!!! They are just real estate agents in disguise preying on poor innocent players who are only interested in giving 110% to the team and doing their best one week at a time!If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Apparently they had a wad of cash set aside for our ROK which they obviously didn't use, so they have a bit of room to move. However, with Hodge's new deal confirmed recently, I don't know how much of that would be left. And the man who started it all, the Schneiderman . . . . .Comment

The Hawks Recruitment Staff are putting on another talk in Canberra this year during draft week. Fantastic event but I'm pretty sure I don't have the guts to raise this issue (as an invited guest).Comment
