I read in today's Oz that Richmond's Shane Tuck is looking for a new home. Potentially he is a very good player. Seems he faded from view when Terry Wallace got the sack at Tigerland. Tuck is not suffering from any injuries so far as I know. Further, he is the type of player who will shine with the right coach. So he might be a good (and likely relatively cheap) pick up for Sydney. And if Luke Ablett stays at the Swans, he got a cousin to look after him in the faraway Harbour City.

What tha!!! Have we or have we not had SIX retirees this year? SIX people. Why on EARTH (INDIGNENT SQUEAK AT END OF EACH WORD) would we be casting off our core at this stage? I hope you are not running your own business, I foresee foreclosures.

        Good call.

Even though he wiped out Kirky once, I think you may have a good option here. Lets see what happens.

Lets face it there is NO WAY ON EARTH that we will trade ROK, Jolly , B1, B2 , Goodes , McVeigh so people can discuss it all day long, it just wont happen.

We need to ADD to our talent base not diminsh it. Brisbane have managed to keep a core talent base and rebuild to an extent that they have climbed higher than the likes of carlton etc in a shorter time. Bottoming out is not the only proven method of winning a premiership.

Not to mention the obsession some people seem to have with Richmond rejects. Just because we've recycled a few unfashionable players in the past doesn't mean we need to become a refuge for all the delisted players out there.

May as well close this thread as it is highly unlikely we are going to trade this year.

We may have a spot left over come PSD for a punt on an older player that has a couple of years left in them (maybe Nathan Brown).

But we are un willing to offer our first or second pick or trade anything of value due to the retirements already from the list.

Happy to draft 4 in the draft and leave a spot open for a hail mary come PSD that might provide some value for us over a couple of years.

Can't wait to see us go around early doors next year with a bunch of younger guys pushing for spots, you never know how it's going to turn out.

It was on BF, a poster called SouthSwans I believe.

His reasoning was that we might get a Selwood type and Goodes only has a few years left so we need to cash in while we can. I don't know where to begin, seriously.

What message are we sending out if we trade a champion of our club, a player that will be considered a legend of the Swans (If he isn't already) with the only reason being we want another first rounder in the hope we find a gem?

The idea is so disgraceful and ridiculous that I struggle to imagine why anyone would suggest such a thing. I've watched Goodes since he was at VFL level and couldn't believe we actually picked him up, little did I know what an elite player he would become. Sometimes I think these supporters, who want to just ditch our great players for a couple of unknown kids, should just go and follow the Bombers or Carlton and then they can salivate over all their top 10 picks and get their calculators out to make sure their list is the youngest.

One minute people want youth and draft picks, the next they want to keep all the old legends. I hope the Swans trade like no tomorrow if we can get some fresh but experienced blood.

Nathan Brown would be a great addition to the Swans. He'd be a nice foil for Playfair in our forward line.

I don't get why some would, on one hand, like to trade away consistently excellent players who have been an integral part of our success and are respected by their team mates (eg ROK) while then recruiting 30-something good-but-well-past-their-best players who have no emotional link to the Swans (eg Cousins, Brown).

Agree totally. This thread could be labelled "Much ado about NOTHING" We have pretty good prospects as we are and the 4 picks will be exciting enough.
(Jetta?) The PSD could give us a good one and we will look in very good shape with that ideal blend of youth ,pace and experience. Those who want to committ selection kamikaze probably have never played next to an experienced player and then a rookie to know the difference and why you need that solid core.

In my opinion it's about a balance between maintaining a competitive team whilst building as quickly as possible for the future. Topping up our list with reliable, good value big names in the short-term who can compete immediately also has the benefit of generating some interest for the wider public than pick
