BTW in the Josh Kennedy article mentions Hawks offering #9 for Burgoyne....seems fair, surely Port will take that. Kennedy's a reasonable kick isn't he? He'd be a better kick than Jude and Kirky, who he'd be looking to replace. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If I was Roos and Longmire, I'd be very tempted to take a punt on him, as while there is baggage involved of course, he is at the end of the day a quality footballer, and probably young enough that he could be part of a push towards a real challenge for the flag somewhere around 2012-13. Getting him for a reasonable deal is of course the big question, but to me I think (Only just) that quality player > dickhead in this case. We have a history of doing well with big profile key forwards, and none of them have ever come without some amount of baggage attached!
About sums up my (very) conflicted view. If we have a shot at him and pass it up, I'd wail "what were we thinking???" Of course, if I suddenly hear Fevola's coming to Sydney, I'll wail "what were we thinking??"

Seems the Fevola speculation can pretty much die

The Australian reports Carlton are after Ed Barlow, we are keen to retain him

I guess Seaby has as much faith in God as what Roos and Kirk have in Buddhism. So really whats the diff??

There was an article in one of the weekend papers a few weeks back showing off the Roos home - buddhas and crystals everywhere. I'm sure if you looked in the frigde it would have been a mung bean festival going on.

So its Ok for Roos & Kirk to bang on about Buddhism but Seaby cant bang on about God?

I wouldn't hold my breath. Port and Hawthorn are the two most obstinate clubs when it comes to trading. See Port's stance on Nick Stevens and the return of Josh Carr and Hawthorn's as we all know with Spida Everitt and ROK. I think the highlight of trade week will be watching these two old codgers slug it out during trade week.

Hall and Spida both endorse Fev:

They both agree it would be a good environment for Fev but do not mention anything about the consequences of this trade on the rest of the team.
If the Swans think they need a "Fevola" (a high profile player) they must be blind. They have a ready made option Adam Goodes (dual brownlow, premiership .....). If the marketing dept. can't make good ( ) use of him they need a new marketing dept.

Forget Fevola. He's too old, and almost certainly would not part of our next serious crack at a premiership.

All our efforts should go towards building our next premiership team, and that means drafting fresh talent while we can, and developing what we've already got. We should only try and grab a pre-existing star if they're under 25 and have no history with serious injuries.

                      Trade week possibilites

If we could pick up Seaby and Josh Kennedy for (gone anyway) Bazza and the #38 draft pick, which is reasonable scenario all up, we would be laughing.

Seaby is not a bad player, and can kick goals. We could have 3 goal kicking rucks next year, if you add Currie. If Seaby and Currie both perform well next year, Jolly could be traded for a top young player or high 1st rounder the next year or two.

I really like Josh Kennedy. I think he fits the mould of what we like in an inside midfielder. Tackles well and makes good decisions under pressure. Really beef up the midfield (a Geelong sized midfielder). Would also make it easier to take an outside midfielder with our first draft pick.

Cannot see Fev coming to Sydney. Would be a terrible decision on so many different levels, as has been pointed out in this thread. Would really disrupt the development of our forward line. Our next premiership will have White and Johnston as key forwards, and that should be our focus. Remarks by Swans' officials seem to think they are on the same page.

I think the strategy for drafting Seaby is to use him as a forward or alternatively allow use of Currie as a forward in his first senior year. Either way, if we have a tall hanging back towards the goal square it allows space for White to lead into and will really make his life a lot easier. Add to that Goodes as next year's AA CHF and young King Louis into the mix and I think the only missing ingredient is that crucial ingredient, the defensive small. Not convinced that Vez or Moore are right for the task. Bevo?

If we were to get Kennedy, then our first pick should definite be on an outside midfielder and thereafter some KPP sized backmen.

I'd much rather see White and Johnston develop and become ten year players than pick up up an overpriced 29 yo with a 4 season window. Hate to see either of the aforementioned squeezed out as a result of an over-focus on Fevola.

Futher, Fevola is clueless on the SCG. Has kicked a grand total of 6 goals from 4 games at Sydney venues. Then again I guess he would no longer have the magnificent Craig Bolton as an opponent.

Isn't it great the way the headline often has nothing to do with what is said in article and Bazza's comments about Fev potentially joining the Swans.

Headline: "Sydney a perfect for Fevola, says Hall"

                                Quotes from Bazza:

"They're talking about youth and that stuff; would the money Fevola would take be better spent on kids? I don't know."

"While I was able to get away from the spotlight coming up here, I really don't think the environment for him would be much better than it is in Melbourne, in fact, it could potentially be worse"

                                And from the first paragraph:

"while Barry Hall believes it could be good for both parties, he said a move to the Swans for Brendan Fevola might not be as smooth as it was for him in 2001."

Hardly a perfect fit as the headline states.
