He tried hard in 2005 as well. He was lucky Stakers ability to hand the Swans gift goals was a greater contirbution to Ablett's gifting of a goal in the final quarter.

2005 was also the year the Swans beat Geelong in a famous SCG semi final game. Everyone remembers that game, and that last quarter: Nick Davis etc etc. BUT, have a look at the last minute of this epic. Who, near the Brewongle Stand corner, remarkably keeps the ball in play, setting up the final Nick Davis goal with just three seconds left on the clock: a certain L.Ablett, that's who.

Also, 2003, Preliminary Final against Brisbane Lions at Homebush. Just before three quarter time, who kicks a very difficult set play goal on the side, about 45 metres out, to keep Sydney just 3 ponts behind: a certain L.Ablett, that's who.

Luke Ablett's time might be almost up, I sadly admit that. But please remember the good times like courteous, loyal fans.

And who caused a sensation by ripping the ball out of Glen Archer's hands and using him as a door mat; L. Ablett that's who.

NOG must be wishing Benny kept going for another year so he'd avoid being the 2009 whipping boy.

On the other hand Bevo must be quite happy.

Assuming NOG bothers with R&W!! Benny was a gem, don't care what anyone else thinks. And Bevo must be thrilled! These guys have their place in the team for a reason.

Did we mention NOG also had carried a shoulder injury for most of the year and went under the knife the minute the season finished! Huh!!! This on top of "not being well"!!! Indignent squeak at end of sentance.

Begs the question why he was playing? Not like he is blessed with the gifts of Mickey who could still add value underdone.

I'm not part of the "play the kids" brigade, but that seems strange if he was under such duress.

Exactly! This explains why he played poorly but doesn't justify it. Strange to pick an out of form injured player ,recovering from illness when there were kids to be played.

Can you remember how you felt at that time???? I wanted to die.I could not believe something like that could happen in a Parklands GF let alone the AFL GF. I seriously thought that was his last game.

Changing history changes the present: causality.

How does anyone know that if Ablett hadn't done that the Eagles wouldn't have gotten two goals instead of one? That some disaster might have struck our team. Let's say ablett instead kicks straight to Leo who jumps for the mark and tears a muscle. What then, hey?

Sure, in it's own it was a balls-up. But if we were to change it with magical powers worse things could happen.

I know that's not what you were saying, but I'm not a fan of bringing up the long-past like this.

As did most of us. Imagine how NOG felt. (Or Zac Dawson for that matter)

At least Luke approached it with humour. At the B&F that year, very late in the night, I was telling Luke that he'd just to get over "that Cousin's goal" and he replied "That'd be a bloody sight easier to do if people stopped talking about it."

                            I hope he's not looking in here . . .

Yeah the Zac Dawson was almost as bad. It is something he will never forget. The way the Swans players talked to Nog and told him to forget it was good.Amazing really. I know what my coach in country league would have done! The player would be off for the rest of the game and if he had any sense would shower and take off home before the end of the game! Don't surface for a month!

Which means that the coaches value him even if som of YOU lot don't.
