I agree with everyone about the umps, Fox and the midfield. They all need fixing.
Otherwise, and apart from a couple of very costly brain spasms (Mattner who should know better, Jack who will have learned something), and the inefficiency in the midfield, there were some very encouraging passages of play. Top games from the black pearls, solid work from ROK, LRT, Shaw and Reg, more encouraging signs from the youngsters Smith, Hannebery, MOD, Thornton.
On fifth quarter Blight thinks we can't rebuild quickly. I think he can't see what's under his nose.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Some good fight shown but in the end a disappointing end to the season. I admire Kirky but his job on Simon Black today was poor. Our entire midfield was well beaten which in the end was the difference - aside from some of the worst umpiring I have seen.

With every ending there is a new beginning, and as we lose 3 great servants we'll unearth some new talent next season.

Three players not playing tonight who will command positions next year are Paddy Veszpremi, Brett Meredith and Lewis Johnston. And with some good draft picks in November we won't be down for long.

What a game Dan Rich tonight so we'll do well to land someone like him with our first rounder!

Will have to wait and see how ready Johnston is. But add Bird into the mix, and cross our fingers that Malceski can refind his mojo, and there is some decent talent waiting in the wings.

And potentially most important of all - if his body stays fit - is Daniel Currie. For those of you who haven't seen anything of him, not only does he look like a promising tap ruckman, he has hands like vices. Could be an important missing piece of the jigsaw.

Free kicks 13-8 Brisbane. That has to be one of the lowest totals ever
          That was the official count.

The unofficial count was much higher.

18 to 12 in favour of Brisbane at one point that statistic was 12-2.

I'd preferred he planted them up the umpires clackers, but I guess that's another thread.

Fab night at the footy, good showcase for the game. Special farewell occasion for the three retirees. Awful display of umping, how could a new convert understand the interpretation of the rules tonite. Lotta love towards the boys from the faithful, Mick was a mess when he passed us. His Mum must have been so proud of the boy.
Excellent fightback as usual when they looked like getting rolled by 7 goals.
Thanks for the pleasure of watching you play Mick, and also jarred and leo. You have all made us marvel at your endeavors.

Totally. Nice effort by those boys. Except for the loss, made for a nice send off..

Jolly can hardly be blamed for that.

He gets his hands to the ball first, and presumably puts the ball where it's supposed to go...isn't he leading the league in effective taps?

I think the clearance problem lies elsewhere...will be interesting to see the starting team for next year if all are fit.

Top class Brisvegas. I loved that. That was a huge effort from our supposed "rivals". (Where the AFL get that from I'll never know!!) That is sportsman like. Good for the kiddies to witness.

                          What a great night.

Wasn't it fantastic to see the premiership flag come out of the "good" linen cupboard and get a whipping in that wind?? We got some great photos of it.

Farewell to three legends of our time.

MickyO - four goals. Can someone tell me why he's retiring? Who says he's an old man.

Crouchy - bled tonight because he missed out on wearing head gear in the 2005 granny.

Leaping Leo - one more mark tonight ala THAT mark - ran in from 20m and grabbed a beauty. One last time!!

I cried when Micky started crying. He and Leo can be our runners next year, and Crouchy can be the gatorade boy.

                            Lambasting!!!

Jolly will get the ruck in the AA team.

If we had a few ROVERS, roving instead of running around bumping into each other, our clearances would be a hell of a lot cleaner.

I don't know why he does it, but Goodesy runs straight through the pack as if he's going to "chuck a Kels" if he's anywhere near the bounce. I've said it before many a time, like Kels, it would be great if he were able to take the ball with him, but all it really does is have three of the opposition follow him and we get another stoppage.

Our "stoppage" game would work a lot better if Kels came in and spent a few sessions with the youngins teaching them to rove the ball.

                              Not anymore Annie.

Sandilands and Mitch Clark are pretty much certainties.
Mitch Clark is the new Dean Cox. @@@@ing phenomenal game last night.

What can i say? I'm just shattered we couldn't get over the line with all the momentum in the last quarter. Story of the Swans this year i guess. Can peg it back but just don't have the class to finish off the games. 2002esk. Great effort to come back from 39 points or whatever it was.

Thanks to our 3 legends Crouchy, Leo and probably my favourite player of all time Michael O'Loughlin. Man i was trying not to cry when magic started crying but a few tears got through.

PS. Looks like Grundy has been pipped right on the line for Mark Of The Year by Brett Burton....

I saw that, and for once have absolutely NO objections. It was OUTstanding. Actually it was Birdman in Flight. Magestic. Especially the landing. I heartily endorse a mighty WOW.
