The Brendan Fevola poll - yes or no?

I am not trying to divert the discussion from the trade thread, where there many interesting - and wildly varying - viewpoints re the Fevola question.

But I am curious to know where the numbers sit in the various different camps.

I don't want him because he's 29, and we are in a rebuilding phase and need to promote youth. We have two quality young key forwards on our list who need games now. If Fevola was 25 I would be all for it, but getting him at 29 while we are at the beginning of a re-build phase would be incredibly stupid.

It has suddenly dawned upon them that if the club is serious about ridding themselves of Fev their is only one buyer and that is us and we are in a position to take his salary and offer pick 28 and nothing else, possibly only 38 if the Swans recruiting department want a laugh come Friday lunchtime.

Get over there everyone and pile on the misery for them.

Word is that Currie could be played as a tall forward which makes sense given our interest in Mumford.

Why would he keep Currie out?

It's not inconceivable.

If Currie can get fit, he deserves a decent shot at playing plenty of senior footy next year. Roos' fixation with finding another ruckman to replace Jolly suggests he has severe doubts over the short term ability of any of Currie, Pyke or Orreal to provide a meaningful contribution in the ruck. Which suggests that Currie's most likely openings are in the forward line.

He'd be a very different kind of forward to Fevola, but there is a limit to how many you could play at the same time, especially if you had Goodes wandering around at CHF.

It is possible that White could be tried as a CHF, thus releasing Goodesy back to the midfield. But I am not convinced that White has the endurance or the footy nous at the moment to play that very difficult CHF role, and I think his attributes are best suited as a leading FF from the goal square. Which is also the role at which Fevola particularly excels, though arguably he is capable of playing a bit further out from goal.

He is a sensational mark of the ball. Certainly his height advantage is more marked in the ACTAFL but even at AFL level he'd have a significant height advantage over most defenders.

It is hard to tell whether he'd be mobile enough to be a really effective senior level forward and until we see him get a go, it is pointless guessing.

There may also be issues with his goal kicking accuracy. He missed far too many sitters this year, but the previous season his set shot kicking didn't look too bad. We know he's been carrying groin injuries - it's hard to assess whether those can explain his goal kicking attempts.

White to CHF, Fev at FF and Currie in the pocket as the third tall.

Goodes to the middle as a winger where he plays his best football.

Johnston to get a years apprantership as the third tall defender before moving forward in 2011 to replace Currie who will be ready to partner Seaby.

Looks good to me.

How about we just forget about getting Fevola and start Johnstone in his natural position at CHF, and leave White in his natural position at FF? It's a pretty crazy idea but may just work a treat.
