Bradshaw a Swan

Wow, surprised there is any negativity about Bradshaw??
All we are giving up is a PSD pick (by the looks) which is an amazing result.
I'm actually nervous about NOT getting him because I am so bloody excited that we will have some great experience up in our forward line without having to do a trade.
The last guy we got from Brisbane as a PSD pick has gone on to be ok
One article I read said something like 'Bradshaw turned Carlton down (followed closely by Rischitelli)' another one suggested once Rischitelli said he didn't want to move, it didn't matter what Bradshaw said. Anyone know a good source for that?Comment

yep it is an interesting one re Carlton..........supposedly he knocked back $1mill for 3 yrs
so if he wanted more money to go to carlton they would have been able to make that happen already.....you would think.....or is it because Rischitelli didnt want to go?
ie Rischitelli had another 1yr with the Lions but Bradshaw didnt so Carlton must have said no way to just Bradshaw ??
hence me thinking that in actual fact Bradshaw doesnt want to live in Melb either........and he said no as well to Carlton......
So how does Carltooooon benefit at all except having to not pay Fev anymore as they wanted him gone but with no replacement ???"be tough, only when it gets tough"

We should be giving that job to White. Sure he is young and still inexperienced but we are going to have to back these youngsters sooner or later.
There's a strong chance that Bradshaw will keep Currie or Johnstone out of the side. I would absolutely hate to see that. We need to get as many games into these kids as possible, that is how we are going to improve and become a premiership threat in a few years, not by treading water with 31 year olds who are well and truly past their best.Last edited by Robbo; 18 October 2009, 08:13 PM.Comment

I'm very keen to get him. Last spot on the list - take a punt on a kid in a shallow draft or take Bradshaw? No brainer surely.Bloods

Something like that anyway. May also give Goodes more opportunities in the middle, but he is a pretty good set shot so I am happy for him to play forward more often than not.
or how about looking at it another way:

Bradshaw can be switched into defence as well so there will be plenty of opportunity to make room in the forward line for the likes of Currie and Johnston if they earn a spot.
He sounds to me like a quality individual as well (just my opinion) so I daresay he would be a good bloke to have around the club.
It would be icing on the cake in terms of the Swans' player movements in the off-season IMO...Comment

Anyone who does not want to see Bradshaw in red and white is kidding themselves.
Little bit over all the BS about keeping kids out of the team and Bradshaw not being a part of our next premiership. Anyone who at the end of 2004 could put their hand on their heart and say we would win in 05 is either crazy or owns a very good crystal ball.
Whilst I agree that the kids are the future direction of the club I do not see any value in immediately starting the season with Currie and Johnstone because they need the experience as part of their development.
Rather than throwing them in the deep end at the same time surely their is more value in one of them playing alongside a Daniel Bradshaw, who for the record has had 2 good seasons in 08 and 09, to ease them in to footy in the top flight whilst also being around a double premiership player at training etc???
We saw this year a week in, couple of weeks out type introduction for Hanneberry and a few of the others so their is no reason it cant work with our aspiring forward line whilst a quality footballer like Bradshaw and the ever improving Jese White form the crux week in, week out.

once again we need 150 plus goals from our top 5 players just to equal 2009 when we came 12th..........bloody 12th !!
so if we want to come top 6 we need approx 200........I think we can come at least 8th if we have another 50 goals plus kicker in addition to what we have started to develop with White and emerging players
Goodes got 38 in 2009 - how many more will he get in 2010 realistically.....???
Jolly got 16 and was out 5th placed !!
Given Saints got 250 goals and lets say we want 200......what 5 players will deliver 200 goals between them in 2010??
1. Bradshaw 60 (achievable)
2. Goodes 45 (stretch but possible)
3. White 40 (big ask 35 most likely)
4. ? 30
5. ? 30
So with no Bradshaw and our bottom 3 kickers only averaging 20 each then we are looking at a grand total of 145 goals if we are extremely lucky !!!!"be tough, only when it gets tough"

If he goes in the PSD, he nominates a big figure that the club of his choice is happy to pay, that is beyond the cap limits of other clubs. Also, many clubs already commit to players in the PSD increasing his chances of getting to his club of choice. It doesn't always work. I remember one year the Swans said they would draft someone but the AFL told them on the day of the draft that the players' demanded salary wouldn't fit in the cap so he missed out (I think he might have tried to sue the club over it too).
Quiz: Who was the player?
Hint: He did eventually get to the Swans, but has moved on (successfully, I may add).Last edited by Triple B; 18 October 2009, 09:20 PM.Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Everyone in favour of drafting Bradshaw seems to be looking through rose-coloured glasses. What happens if he breaks down again? We'll have diverted precious resources for nothing.
All our efforts should go into constructing our next premiership team. The chances are very high that Bradshaw won't be part of that, even if he plays for 2-3 years and doesn't get injured again.Comment

I'd prefer to see the last spot go to someone other than a 31 year old who's done his ACL in the past couple of years.

What happens if the guy we draft instead never plays a game after breaking down like many of the guys we have drafted in the national draft over the last few years (Willoughby pick 15 for example) ? And what if pick 55 does not play a game are we better off?
Correct answer NO!
