Not that I am unhappy about Ablett being delisted but you are being unfair. I suggest that you watch the final stages of the 4th quarter - especially at the 29th minute mark.

Without Ablett's effort the ball may never have made it to the final ruck contest! It will not be recorded as a stat, but it epitomised his endeavour.

I watched the 2005 season highlights dvd for the first time in a couple of years the other day. Some of those who question his contribution should watch that again and you will be surprised at how often he gets mentioned in the best during that season ... it certainly surprised me ... we all tend to focus on his most recent contributions and forget the promise he had. To be honest, after watching those highlights again, I am comfortable in saying he made a significant contribution to our premiership season. Good luck Luke and thanks for your service.

first thing that springs to mind whenever people are discussing the virtues of either luke ablett (apart from "the crawl") or stevie johnstone.

I was just saying it's unfortunate that for both players they'll be more remembered for a single mistake - clanger in the case of Ablett and losing a ruck contest in the case of Playfair. I don't doubt Ablett's intensity or his form three or four years back.

This might be a stupid questions, but can I ask why on earth we would delist someone just to redraft them?

Well, for example, if Bradshaw were to be taken by another club before our pick in the PSD, we might have Ablett or Henry as our backup. Nothing gained, but nothing lost.

Also, we might want to put them onto the rookie list. I think that is definitely what the club may be thinking with regard to Playfair.

Also, we might have a few guys in mind we hope to nab with pick 55. If it gets to that pick, the players we had our eye on are already gone, and none of the other players REALLY stand out, we could just go for NOG or Playfair.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

They want to see what else might be available before they commit to him. Pick 5 for us is number 55, I think. When we get to this point they will assess what is left in the pool and decide if Ablett is a better bet. It is possible one of the youngsters they have ear-marked and expect to go earlier may make it through to pick 55. Remember Goodes was taken about then, O'Keefe later and MOL later. If all those who they have a wish to secure are gone then Noggy make make a sensible selection. They may alternatively take him and perhaps Henry as mature aged rookies.

I think Buchanan was delisted and then re-drafted. Heath James de-listed then rookie listed and then promoted to the seniors again. I think Luffy might might also have been de-listed and re-drafted - maybe a couple of times.

If there is nothing better out there when they get to the latter picks, then at least with a Monty, James or a Luffy you have a ready made senior player and you know exactly what you're getting and how they will fit into the team dynamics. Ditto for Noggy & Henry. A shallow draft pool might be a life-line for them. If Sydney don't want Noggy, I hope he gets to play with Nathan at GC17.

Good decision by the club. They are starting to think with their heads instead of their hearts.

                        Bradshaw's got a few too.

Including Kennelly and Bradshaw, that means that Sydney have picked up 6 established players this year who were not at the club during Season 2009. Can anyone remember of a similar year in terms of that number of pickups?

I have got a strong feeling that either and possibly both Ablett and Playfair will be picked up by the Swans in the National Draft, particularly as they will continue to train with the team. And there are plenty of proceedence with Amon Buchanan, Heath James and Troy Luff, just to name three. The rationale is flexibilty. There is no doubt that the first 4 picks in the National Draft (6 ,14, 38 and 54) will all be kids. When it comes to the two last draft picks, (55 and I think, 71), the Swans Football Department will make the decision they have yet to make: further kids or the recyled Ablett and/or Playfair option. The factors will include the potentiality of the kid, (he could have been a guy unexpectedly overlooked by all the clubs), verses, an up-to -date assessment of the fitness of the de listed player.

With Playfair I sense that his fitness is still not quite there, but he has yet a further 2 weeks until the National Draft to come good.

Unless the list changes further, 71 will be PASS to enable Bradshaw to be picked up in the PSD.
