We're going to miss Ablett's dash and Playfair's kicking for goal.
NOt that I want to dance on their graves, but both will be remembered at the Swans for the 05 final series - Playfair for losing that final ruck contest to Ball and Ablett for his immaculate pass to Cousins.Comment

Abletts desperate punch to keep the ball in play lead to the stoppage right in front of goal. Thanks to him, Ball got a superb tap down Davo's throat, juggle, juggle juggle, drop on the boot and the CROWD GOES WILD!!!!!!!!!!!Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 19 November 2009, 05:45 AM.Comment

It was the 4th and winning goal that lead to our GF win.

Similarly I will always remember Playfair kicking for goal in our 1000th win against Richmond at the SCG. I was sitting next to Annie, she said he could never kick it from there, on the boudary line 40-50 metres out in front of the Trumper Stand building site. The result? Goal.....right through the middle.
Some people may choose to remember the negatives, that probably says more about them that the players they are remembering, I choose to remember (for the most part) the positives.Does God believe in Atheists?Comment

this is the problem with being a quiet achiever. you don't get noticed.
Luke is a very good player. An engine room type, gets the momentum going. He has had a rotten time with severe illness and injury, and he didn't give up. He is a Swan and deserves a bit of our loyalty. He has surely been very loyal to us.
He is also still training with the boys and is looking just fine. I hope and trust the PTB do the right thing and retain him in the long run.
Henry could play a very good game and kick goals with singular effect. His problem is that his body is not interested in playing football, like the gorgeous runner of ours Heath James. (He did 11 hammies. I find it hilarous he is running for the club now and has done for some years, but I digress). I cannot see him going any further, in a playing sense that is. Would not be surprised to see him in a managerial role though, one day.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

Thanks for the reply - you'd have to say that he represents (if not responsible for) a special time in the Swan's history.Comment

I rekon we can say he just about is now, heard this morning melbourne will be selecting mcdonald as their first pick in the PSD, north have already ruled him out and freo will take mcphee. That leaves just the tiges, who may select someone like mitch thorp (this is all according to SEN though)

Yes I'll grant you there is that kind of perverse sense of historical perspective about it. Maybe have him sign a roll of Sorbent would be more appropriate.Comment

Thinking about Bucky, and keep in mind I was 7 and living in Melbourne when he was appointed, but would Sydney have gotten Barassi to coach them if Bucky hadn't been there and fired mid-season? Is that his greatest legacy - the bloke who filled in for him?10100111001 ;-)Comment

It's possibly a year too soon, but he would be a pretty handy addition to the G17 squad. He would come cheap in terms of no trading cost but would be a very valuable hard, seasoned body in amongst the teenagers they are accumulating and no doubt his leadership would be valuable too.
Does anyone know if the club is recruiting experienced players for the upcoming year to play in their VFL side? I read they'd signed Nathan Ablett - is that with a view to him playing VFL in 2010 or just coming on board in 2011?Comment
