Ablett and Playfair Delisted

Remember that well. Ablett has always been a favourite of mine.
Similarly I will always remember Playfair kicking for goal in our 1000th win against Richmond at the SCG. I was sitting next to Annie, she said he could never kick it from there, on the boudary line 40-50 metres out in front of the Trumper Stand building site. The result? Goal.....right through the middle.
Some people may choose to remember the negatives, that probably says more about them that the players they are remembering, I choose to remember (for the most part) the positives.Comment

McKenna has often spoken about his side's performance in the TAC Cup and how the VFL is a big step as the group will be playing against harder, more seasoned bodies. If Ablett doesn't get a gig with an AFL club in the drafts I think it's all but assured he'll be heading to GC17 next year to play in the VFL, though that doesn't mean he'll play for them in 2011.10100111001 ;-)Comment

A realistic decision by Luke, and no doubt reached with some difficulty. Goodbye, thanks for the hard work you put in and I hope you get picked up in the draft, as I agree that you have more to offer. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. It's possibly a year too soon, but he would be a pretty handy addition to the G17 squad. He would come cheap in terms of no trading cost but would be a very valuable hard, seasoned body in amongst the teenagers they are accumulating and no doubt his leadership would be valuable too.
Does anyone know if the club is recruiting experienced players for the upcoming year to play in their VFL side? I read they'd signed Nathan Ablett - is that with a view to him playing VFL in 2010 or just coming on board in 2011?
Recent delistees, former #16 ND pick Darren Pfeiffer (Carlton via Adelaide) and former #24 ND pick Cleve Hughes (Richmond), are two prime contenders for GC consideration who've moved to Qld. The fact that they have both signed with the Southport Sharks, tends to say to me that Gold Coast are telling interested early-20s talent, "we won't sign you-- we won't even make you a member of our squad. Sign with any old QAFL club of yr choice, and then we'll make you an offer to join us for training and play some VFL games for us, if your form at yr local-comp club is good enough."Comment

WOW our media manager is earning good bucks. The way the article is handled is excellent. Very respectful of both parties and completing lacking in innuendo and selective quotations.
I agree with him - he has value to add - and I hope he gets another opportunity.Last edited by Lucky Knickers; 24 November 2009, 06:11 AM.Comment

We have six senior spots on the list (after Thornton's promotion), one for Bradshaw so we'll only use picks 6,14,38,54,55. Playfair will either be selected with pick 55 or on the mature age rookie listComment

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Correct decision has been made IMHO. Ablett out, Playfair retained. We simply couldn't afford TWO list cloggers at the expense of a draft pick. I'm still sceptical about whether or not anything will be achieved with reataining Playfair, but I do think there is more upside possible in him over Ablett. I think we've seen the best of Ablett, and it was a long time ago.Comment
