I have seen the last five minutes of that semi final more times than any other five minutes of footy I've watched. And I still don't think I will remember NOG for his 1%er then.

I watched the 2005 season highlights dvd for the first time in a couple of years the other day. Some of those who question his contribution ... Good luck Luke and thanks for your service.

I don't think anyone is saying he was poor or unworthy back in '05, just that he has never gotten back to that level, or maybe he stagnated and the game has passed him by and offers little to a team which appears to have a lot of depth in the roles NOG would be competing for.

This might be a stupid questions, but can I ask why on earth we would delist someone just to redraft them?

I'll also have a stab at this.

Looking at our current squad plus Bradshaw, I think it's fair to say that Ablett and Playfiar are not in the best 22, possibly not the best 25. For us they will be "depth" players; playing in the twos for the most of the year barring disasterous occurances. So it would be nice to have them there, just in case.

From the player's point of view, that is hardly ideal. Delisting them gives them one last chance to play senior football in 2010 with somebody, anybody. If there is really no interest in them we can then redraft them, the player knowing that they are getting the best possible result.

It's a bit of a crummy situation for a player who's been a regular for 5 years to suddenly be relegated to the twos. It's about doing what's right for the player.

Just want to clear this statement. I saw Stuey play his last game in ressies at the SCG, and was as up close and as personal as I could get without being arrested. Second game back and he could barely walk by half time; he didn't come back for the second half. His knees were gone. Within the next week or so he pulled the pin himself and being a reserved man he probably did not feel the need to make an announcement. He was not left on the outer.

He is also a class above nearly anyone else I have ever come across. He has been working with the Swans management since, and some of the best recruiting work comes from him. I have always said that you cannot tell a lie to Stuey. He would just look at you until you squirmed.

In the terms of fairness all round I think you would have to remove this name from your list.

yes, "on the outer" was not quite on the mark. i was more considering the lack of sentimentality: under roos he never got a game because of his position in the team or standing around the club.

the point is, the club has been shown to be quite firm-handed in the past with very significant players. i find it hilarious that now that they are being very gentle with one of our lesser premiership players there is a cohort on here queuing up to beat their chest in patronage and "approve" of the club's new-found toughness.
