Roos said defenders Craig Bolton, Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Rhyce Shaw would probably miss the opening match, as would forward Jesse White, who has an ankle injury.
Swans find a new gig for Roos

The club said a week ago the three defenders wouldn't play. It's news that White is injured.

I'm betting that instead of bringing in Johnston we'll go with just the two targets and play the smaller guys like Moore, McGlynn, TDL, Jetta, Bevan so as to get a look at them.

(The story says Roos will stay on with the Swans in an off-field job, but that's hardly news.)

I think 707 was referring to round 1 of the premiership, and Roosy to round 1 of the NAB.

I thought we had a full squad available for the NAB.

But we're down LRT, Bolton, Shaw, White and now Bradshaw if these reports are correct.

The Swans are being ultra conservative with traded Lion Daniel Bradshaw and will leave him out of the club's first NAB Cup game. Others likely to be rested from the Blacktown game include Craig Bolton, Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Rhyce Shaw.

The latest NAB Cup outs leaves just Grundy & Richards for key defensive posts and other than Goodes no tall forwards.

Maybe we can play one of those small forward structures Auntie Gerald was talking about other teams using against us.

So we'd have Vespremi, TDL, Jetta, Sumner, J Bolton, Jack, Moore as a forward line for Carton to try and contain. Or do we play Currie and Playfair as talls? What about Barlow as a tall highly mobile target?

With White and Bradshaw missing , this would be an early opportunity for Johnston to have a crack. He wasn't at the training session I attended a week ago, anyone know what stage he is at?

I think, because we are playing carlton, they lack Tall Forwards now, so we don't need our KP Backs playing. We can try a few other options down back, to see if they can pinch hit there. Players like Pyke, Currie, Playfair etc?

We can fill our team with our emerging midfielders and try and match carltons up and coming engine room. It will be a good match-up for Hanners etc on a Bryce gibbs type.

Good odds to be had on the NAB Cup / AFL Premiership double for the Swans. Getting on?

You oh learned one have fallen for the Roos 2 card trick. The PR is good on our desire to "win one for Roosey" but the great Yoga God has already declared key players are likely to miss.

You of all people should know not to stroke the tummy of the Buddha against the grain. Tibetan Betfair is sucking you in. Don't fall for it oh wise one.

No Pyke? You think they'd give him a run to see how he's progressed. And do you think they'll risk all of Goodes, Kirk and B1 in R1?

We can never fit in all the players in one match. I think we have eough talls in the team. Pyke should develop more in the seconds first. I will have Hannebery and Meridith before Pyke if we have to add a couple of emergencies.

As NAB cup allows 8 players on the extended bench, the time that Goodes, Kirk and B1 will spend in the field can be controlled to reduce the risk.

After all, Roos wants to win a NAB cup match this year. If we lost the first one, there will not be a second chance. We can rest players after we win R1.

I just listened to an interview with Paul Roos and he mentioned that to replace White they might rotate Seaby and Mumford up forward and/or Dan Currie who he said has been 'playing well'. I hope Currie is given a run there.

The Muncher to go forward will be a vindaloo move by Roos!

Currie at FF could potentially be the same result that White had when he moved there. This kid is tall ,can mark well and can kick reasonably straight from a 40 metre radius.Like to see Sumner,Melcho and Jetta putting the ball in the zone 30 metres out from Goal. This move could really work and wouldn't it be just the icing on the cake if we ended up with two young gun FF's.

Based on the assessment by Berbakov in the Official Swans Web site today, Sumner is a good chance to play in the NAB Cup, too. May be even Bevan won't even have a chance to be selected in the pre-season games.

Has anyone got the video of today's training to work? When I've played it, the video is distorted.
