The only forward line that was touted as going small in 2009 that I can recall was the Bulldogs. Now they have whatisname they are going tall. i don't particualrly look to see who starts on the bench but I doubt LRT has started there much in his career.

He and Grundy were very solid in the latter part of the season. It was fumble fingers Richards who stuffed up time and again. If anyone is the surplus backline hack it is Richards. Slow, wobbly kick and turns gold into mud when he has the footy.

Nice to see that you held back and didn't say what you really meant

Good bloke though, but I can't see how he could be considered before LRT. The Berbawho article in another thread didn't even mention LRT in the backline.
They're foxing for sure. I'll say it again.

Starting backline for round 1 picks itself.

        Smith, LRT, C Bolton
        Kennelly, Grundy, Shaw

        A dead set stonebonker.

I really can't see you being wrong, and if you are I think it will only be about Smith (who may start elsewhere and be rotated through).

Nico - no Mattner or Malceski ?

Mal has one bad year and he is dropped into the abyss ?

I think Malceski will spend a lot of his time on the wings and through the centre, but if you call that an abyss then yeah

This is what I am hoping, especially if he regains his top form.
I imagine Bradshaw would love to be smacked on the chest from the Eski's spearing flat kicks.

Very good point about the Berbakov article. Weird there was no mention of LRT when he is our 2nd best backman.

Couldn't argue with your backline, only slight change may be Shaw on a wing for Mattner on a HBF.

Richards still deserves a spot in the team, he is a handy swingman. Would start him on the bench.

I thought it was weird not mentioning LRT, but on a re- read of the article I note that the part that doesnt mention him is not a quote but a statement by the author of the article which is Jenny Mcasey, so you cant actually assume that is what berbakov said.

Couldn't agree more. Have a look at Teddy against Collingwood (in Syd), Adelaide and Carlton (in Melb) last year if anyone needs to refresh their memory.

Yes good point. Most likely that Jenny is just a little clueless, or forgot. Or both.

Or that, as an experienced journalist she said what she meant and we may be right to read something into it.

Totally agree although like Bevan you cannot criticise his courage. "Turnover Ted" is our nickname and his stuff ups go a long way to understanding some of our losses.Keep him away from the full back line! The big thing in his favour is he played well in the GF as did LRT who use to be a weak link but now has cemented up his cracks!
