Met with Hawks, not good because given where they will finish I don't know how we get a good trade done, doubt we'd settle for what is looking like pick 17/18. Much prefer he goes to Carlton who have a pick worth getting.
I'm smelling a bit of Mumford here, we couldn't understand why Swans didn't give Mummy a new contract then it became clear when Buddy is announced. Maybe we are into one of the high profile club jumpers like Prestia, O'Meara, Hurley, Wood etcComment

Maybe he should give ROK a call to see what it's like when Hawthorn say they want you but refuse to actually offer anything decent in a trade.
It doesn't sound like we pulled or lowered our offer to Mitchell - so even if there are other targets, we felt we could re-sign him and still get them.
Which is unlike the Mumford situation where we refused to offer a contract all along - knowing we couldn't afford him.Comment

With Brad Hill heading back to Freo. The Hawks may end up with an extra decent early pick to trade with....
There is also the ability to trade next years picks as well...So O'Meara may be gettable.
O'Meara in, Mitchell out....I'd take that anyday.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

In relation to ROK, I asked him this question a few weeks ago and it was Carlton not Hawthorn. What happened Carlton said no to a trade back then for pick 6.I am a proud South Australian Sydney Swans Member - Go BLOODSComment

He's certainly a tough kid to get a read on - some of his earlier games this season were outstanding. Then he turns in a game like yesterday, where almost every possession was a waste of energy. Needs to become more consistent, otherwise I'd be more than happy at the club looking at what they might get for him. I suspect that, notwithstanding the CBA furphy, he's pretty much already made up his mind.Comment

I have to agree with this. It's a bit sad to watch him play as I'm already resigned to losing him. On the upside, we may get a trade done, or it opens up our line-up to accomodate somebody else. Who knows? Maybe Tommy will be in the red and white next year.Comment

Nearly all here have a greater knowledge of Mitchell and AFL then I do but I have a funny feeling that he does not sit well in the team. His original contract was way beyond what would be expected. This appeared to be inflated to match GWS and their big bucket. This was some $450,000 a year to play in NEAFL. He then did wonderful things on the field but Longmire resisted in promoting him. It appeared Tom was not able to do all the things asked of him.
If he goes to another Club he will have days where he has great games and there will be a chorus "we should have found a way to keep him". I think on balance and for the team he should not be a top priority.Comment

There's plenty of direct quotes from the time saying otherwise, so not sure how good his memory is, which is strange.

I'd love to read a book about all the not publicised deals the either fell through or never eventuated.Comment

I hope Mitchell stays, but if he doesn't it won't be the end of the world. It's not like we are short of midfielders, and have a number
of others (Mills, Heeney, even Hewitt) who can step in when the time comes. I think we're short on running defenders/wingman.
In an ideal world we'd have a Nathan Wilson (GWS) style player with a 60M boot on him coming thru about now. Come to think of it,
we did have a similar player, until we traded him for Callum Sinclair. And then there was that other guy, the bloke who kicked the winning
goal in the 2012 GF. Mal something or another.Comment
