    Excellent point.

    Even bearing in mind Nick Smith's relatively successful bounce-back (it was a mere 10 weeks before he played seniors again, and nearly a full season after that 2nd match before he played his 3rd game), consider this: history suggests that there is a 50% chance that if we drop Rohan next week, his senior career is over.

    Do we really want to take that kind of risk, Paul Roos?

      Rohan will not be dropped next week. LRT and McGlynn and Hanners will be in the Ins, if fit, for Barlow, Jetta and either Moore or Teddy, depending on matchups

        My outs:
        - Rohan (tried hard, didn't work himself into the game and we need a win so he needs more ressie time)
        - Barlow (rubbish)
        - Richards (got smashed by pods)

        In:
        -McGlynn
        -LRT
        -Hanneberry

        Maybe throw in Veszpremi for someone like Mattner. We've got way to many running backs and its killing the support for the other guys.

          I'm with this menu. Those three HAVE to come back in (said the newly-minted Gopher devotee). And hoping Moore stays in - I like Ted, but he looked overwhelmed yesterday (which, yeah, I know, it was vs Geelong, few DIDN'T look that way by game's end). Still, if Richards gets a rest, he can write more cool columns during the break. Maybe he's better for us as a behind-the-scenes morale-building writer.

            I think Matty O'Dwyer says hi too...both after debuts at the Cattery (and floggings!)

              No, I'm wrong...he was at Brisbane...it was Smith I was thinking of...remember thinking at that time it was almost funny to see Roos throw an unexpected debut to a poor bloke at the cattery...done it 3 times now

                poor Teddy got out paced by the Podster ! which amazed me.......and a few other coaches this year !!....There was some amazing displays yest by Geelong !.........amazing !

                * LRT in for Ted
                * Hannes in for Barlow
                * McGlinn in Rohan
                * Moore if picked to date must be giving Roos flexibility in rotations and will be picked again ( but I would rather persist with Jetta and Rohan even though they got done yest......I think the improvement we could see via both near end of season after 15 games or so will be much higher then Moore plus Smith deserves a spot over Moore )........

                White, Braddy, Moore
                McGlinn, Goodes, Kennedy

                Kirk, Mumford, Bolton, ROK, McVeigh, Jack

                Mal, Grundy, Mattner
                Kennelly, LRT, Shaw

                Bench:
                Hannes
                Smith
                Jetta
                Pyke

                    I think it would be harsh to drop Rohan after one game. Thus the .
                    Smith has been fantastic in his last 2 games, as already pointed out, and IIRC he kept Mr Didak pretty quiet last year.
                    He's does nothing too flash, but he does his job, curtails his opponent.

                    Will be an interesting chat around the selection table this week.

                      You are spot on about Jetta's boots.I'm a believer that you have to earn special things and so far Jetta has just been a player IMO.

                        Depth in ready to go talls has actually turned out to be skin deep, eh. Ted and Ed are simply not tall footballers (tall men, yes) and neither is Goodesy. Bizarrely Craig Bolton, on the other hand, is a tall footballer as are Braddles and Scarlett even though they are not nearly as tall men!

                        In the reserves we have 2 tall, good young ruckmen and the only other ones are a forward (Johnstone) an Irishman (McKaigue) and a rake (Reid)....images of Zac Dawson and Rocca (or Buddy or whoever it was).....the answer is to bring in strong bodies who can defend even if they are not tall....like Firrito and C. Brown and L. Barry have done. Anyone in the twos who can do that? I reckon Vez would have been a better key defender than the other two....or play Pyke in defence and bring in Currie to the ruck

                          Moore had a MIA game yesterday, but his past two weeks have been great. He's a hard body and he's got to stay based on previous performances

                            comon guys, give him a break ... they're just coloured boots! should we create a colouring system where players earn the right to wear boots ... so that brownlow winners wear gold, premiership players silver ... It's no different to half of my little brother's team wanting to wear Jarrod Hayne's yellow boots. It's a fashion statement, and if a kid has the confidence in himself to wear them, don't stop him. It's just a colour and I think they look great.

                              Richards had a terrible game, but people quickly forget how well he played against Brisbane the week before. He, like Barlow, are a little mentally fragile when under siege and Kardina Park is the absolutely worse place for these kinds of players - it's downright hostile. I think Roos will be mature about this and move on. It's obvious now that Barlow is probably not up to AFL standard, but he was thrown to the wolves. Geelong were as switched on today as much as I've ever seen them. Not only that, they're all strong bodied men.

                              As far as selection goes, LRT will come in probably for Ted only because Dogs have a much smaller forward line. Mattner will probably stand their third tall in R. Murphy. Hanneberry for Barlow.

                              So who does McGlynn make way for?
                              I think the match committee will be most disappointed with one stat from the match - tackles. Sydney have been leading, the single most important stat in the game, tackle ratio to opposition possessions. Going into the round, we were leading the league at 1 tackle per 4.9 opposition possessions. Yesterday it blew out to 6.2. It's largely an independent stat, therefore not really reliant on how well the opposition team is playing and it's the biggest indicator of attitude. Geelong finished the game with 3.8 (one of the best performances for the season). Roosy would be the first to say, if you're not getting the ball, you'd better be tackling. So who didn't bring their tackling game yesterday, who should have been:

                              Kennelly = 0 tackles
                              Shaw = 1 tackle
                              Bolton = 3 tackles (well down on avg)
                              Grundy = 2 tackles
                              McVeigh = 1 tackle

                              These guys are locks, but they should shoulder a lot of the responsibility behind the thrashing. For the others who aren't locks:

                              Moore = 0 tackles
                              Smith = 1 tackle
                              Richards = 1 tackle
                              White = 2 tackles
                              Barlow = 3 tackles
                              Jetta = 4 tackles
                              Rohan = 6 tackles

                              Although Moore has been much much better this season, this is a fair indictment on a leader at the club IMO, simply because zero tackles is completely the wrong message, even if you're not getting a kick. Smith also could have done a lot better in this department. Although Johnson only ended with 2 goals, it probably should have been more and ended with 4 tackles himself. On the other hand, Rohan had 4 possessions and had 6 tackles. You'd be mad to drop that kind of endeavour.

                              Smith or Moore for me. However, it's likely that one of McGlynn or Hanneberry won't be ready, so they may get a reprieve.
