These annual June Collingwood games threads bring out two RWO groups:

There are the optimistics who sense that this time THIS TIME, we are due. We will beat the Pies.
Then there are the realistics, who know that the Swans face another 2 hour Homebush Bay battle where they come out with no competition points

I am sadly in the latter category.

The problem with the string of recent losses against the Pies is not that we were simply beaten by a better team - the problem is that we were humiliated after two-thirds of our team kept putting in inept performances.

There is no reason why that has to keep occurring. A four-quarter, 22-player effort would make all the difference. Go Swans!

If Bradshaw and Tadgh play I think we can win but your right, it will take a decent effort across the board to get the win.

                Rubbish.

If we need to rely on a thirty-something with a degenerative knee condition and an injury prone backman to beat Collingwood, we'll never beat them.

We've just had a fantastic win against Essendon without either Bradshaw or Kennelly, because of a sustained team effort over four quarters. That's what has been missing against Collingwood for years. We've been resigned to defeat before running onto the field and it shows.

Let the next generation stand tall. Get them to show a bit of mongrel. And then it will be look out Collingwood.

Agree with most of this except the "mongrel" part. I don't think this would work against the Pies and might backfire if we can't back it up with deeds. We don't have Barry Hall anymore! We need a great well thought out gameplan that enables us to kick a winning score., team selection that gives us the players to carry out this plan, then intensity courage and committment for a full 4 quarters . We also need the Umpires to give us a fair run, like the Essendon game, and a bit of luck..then we can win.

The wobbles just choke our slow midfielders and forwards I'll be very surprised if we get up it would mean that the wobbles played a shocker or we moved the ball faster.

cmon you can't be that stubborn to not be looking forward to bradshaw coming in? their defenders are pretty average and he should have a great game against them.

Cheer Squad, I can see the arguement you are putting forward and indeed it was a team effort to be proud of. In reality though Essendon defence is not of the highest standard (and Fletcher was out too). We almost lost the game despite having significant more inside 50s than the Bombers.

By having Bradshaw in particular back, means he takes the best defender and the order shuffles down so to speak. Means White will play on the 2nd defender.

Just by the same token our defence will be so much stronger when Bolts comes back as he will take one of the mian forwards from the opposition.

We are definitely a better team with both Bradshaw and Kennelly in it IMO.

Fully fit, he's an asset. It's a pity we didn't have him as a member of the team sooner. If he can help us break our run of outs against Collingwood, I'll be delighted.

Having said that, I do believe we're much better off going forward being able to win difficult games without him. Given our experience with him so far, I think it's fair to say that as long as he remains on our list, he's basically going to be a week-to-week proposition.

Here's a question for you. If you think Collingwood's defenders are pretty average, why are they travelling so well?

The Essendon game was a match we should've won anyway.
We played at home the dons were down to a bench of one for a good portion of the game, so we were playing against tired players for that amount of time and with all that we still only won by 9 points

Absolutely correct and precisely what worries me.We don't have the free flowing forward system or the genuine fire power players to kick a big winning score no matter how many times we get it down there. They have Medhurst , Didak ,Cloke plus Anthony. All genuine threatening forwards. Our backline is courageous, our centreline dominant , our ruck ruling the hitout and only a 9 points win? I think we look a lot better with White and Goodes in key positions but this has to be Goodsey's game . Him and White need to kick a bag.We will not develop new forwards from the reserves by the look of things this year,Bradshaw and Moore will come back and this therefore is the forward line we have to work with.We need it to be threatening!
