The trials and tribulations of lewis roberts-thomson

From a rugby background lewis has mainly played in defence for the sydney swans with an impressive performance in the 05 grand final and can contest the ball strongly with strong marks and great tackling intensity.

Lewis also has a remarkable yet unfortunate record of being the most stats of turning the ball over and creating opposition score in the afl over the last decade.

Opposition teams are happy to leave lrt free when the swans try to clear the ball from defence as he clearly becomes a liability according to champion data analysis.

It appears very concerning to fellow players to either risk giving him the ball with his current history or take further risks and potentially play as individuals to compensate for his lack of confidence or ability.

Please respond with your thoughts regarding this and provide us with the solutions as we can't keep going down this path of destruction as its making it soul destroying to other players who week in week out endure this same heartache!

Many thanks hugh clarke (swans member)

Are you blaming LRT for the loss? He was just about our best player IMO. IF u want to haul him over the coals at least wait until he has a bad game.

It provides for great entertainment IMO. Everytime the great man is near the ball I get genuinely really excited because I've no idea what's about to happen.

Completely agree. So sick of everyone giving LRT a hard time when there are definitely others who deserve criticisms before him.

LRT is under rated and over criticised. Played very well yesterday.

It's in the club charter. We have to have one. So he's just stepped up now that Leo has gone.

I could be mistaken for thinking you are talking about Leo!

For every goal saving mark LRT takes, he does falter under pressure when quick handballs are required.
Seems he doesn't have that instinct that others do for getting the ball, successfully, to a team mate by hand.

He did save a number of goals when he was relieved of Jack duties.

i think one of the most impressive parts of the season has been the work of lrt and grundy as a combo down back. He is no superstar but he is a solid defender doing a good job under pressure.

LRT is about one of the last to blame for the Swans current form slump.

LRT is an easy and cheap target IMO. Normally does very well, not a superstar but has some wonderful moments out there, I really do wonder why he continues to get dedicated threads.

Seems to be the only defender in Australia not allowed to make a mistake. It's like blaming a Goal Keeper in soccer for every loss a team has (forgetting England for a moment ) if the ball comes in often enough, goals will be scored. Simple as that.

Losing 12.13 to 14.5 suggests our major worry isn't down back.

most people even in the media now acknowledge that LRT has become a very good centre half back, there arent too many in the afl better (arent many CHB really) .

how about you focus on this year? he has been a VERY good player for us, both him and Reg have done a good job without our #1 defender down there.
