The fact that he played on might be in his favour, but then again it might not. When you do a calf it sometimes feels a bit sore but it is when it cools down that you really feel it. I have done my left calf a few times running and you just don't know if you are over it until you give it a real stretch and sometimes then it just pops out again just when you reckon you are over it.
He didn't strain the calf, he took a knock (corkie) from Hampson? when he received the free kick early on.

As an aside, that was also what made him buckle at the knees, as you would if your calf gets kneed from behind, collecting high contact and a free. The commentators pissed me off when they made several suttle references to him 'playing' for the free kick by ducking.

As for the very obvious hobbling around like an old man after the game, I think you'll find the hobble was caused by having a bag of ice strapped to the calf, rather than the calf injury itself.

Mate, you may be right in the end, but I wouldn't be too concerned that he won't play. I'm more concerned about HOW he'll play, he hasn't exactly shone the past few weeks.

Sure, occasionally it will happen, but far more often than not, there will be a legitimate reason. Hindsight is really the only way to ever tell which one it is.
      +1

And if we're talking specifically about the decision not to include Veszpremi this weekend, you don't even have to speculate about behind the scenes activity to hazard a creditable guess about why he's not in the team. He was just so-so in the reserves a fortnight ago, and was very ineffective last weekend. I have been a big Vez fan since the first time I saw him play, and I thought he was stiff to get dropped after the Port game. But he's done nothing onfield over the past couple of weeks to suggest he is hard done by this weekend by not being selected.

(Whether Jetta deserves a spot based on the last two weeks is also debateable, but he played a blinding half two weeks ago and a blinding 15 minutes last weekend. It's not much, but it is a whole heap more than Veszpremi.)

A work person I deal with who knows Sam Reid said he is being really cagey and wouldn't go out this weekend "due to training"...don't know what that means, maybe he just really doesn't like this guy haha, but I thought I would share for speculation purposes!

I'm down in Melb this weekend for the game and can't wait to see Jetta get his first goal! Gonna happen......

I am very happy he is back in the team after a few games in the two's
Is it possible for a player to have second year blues in their first year. I think it is possible Jetta had doubt and also game was taking physical toll on his body. Also believe he started believing some of the @@@@ in the press after his first few games which probably didn't help. Don't know if a few weeks rest in the twos will be enough to help him this season but looking forward to seeing him back, and think that next year with the experience he has had, and another preseason he will shine.

Please, just one straight kick through the big sticks..............or maybe a few.

If Shaw is left forward having Jetta back will also give us some run from the back through the middle and up forward. Often we have pace from the back and everything stagnates through the middle and at half forward, I like the idea of spreading our running players over more of the field, gives us more potency on all lines.

And I do have a feeling Mickey O done his hammy stretched out on a marking lead.

Which end will Swans supporters be today? For memory Demons congregate at the city end in their tweed jackets. I've never sat at Punt Rd end for Swans games though so if someone could confirm I'd appreciate it.

Nothing like positive rumour. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sam out there, especially since he is ob viously an emergency so he will be down there (as per the usual with emergencies) and if Macca is still carrying perhaps they will trust Jetts with his job and give Reid Smiffy's job.

Macca was crook big time the week before, so he played an ineffective game, and he said (as they do), that the knock was tightening up and he came off for precaution. It wasn't as though we were going to lose the game by the time he came off. Common sense. Mind you, Plugger had a strained archiles which was in fact a groin......so I don't believe any of them. Will probably get a bit more of this furfy info now that there are some genuine players knocking on the door of the seniors camp.

More speculation from the work person who knows Sam Reid would be appreciated Damien. I rate him and look forward to his career.

Probably. I remember it was an unneccesarily wide kick given the lead we had, nad it was the dying minutes of the game.
