Rd 17, 2010 Demons V Swans Pre-Game Discussion (with Teams)
No matter what we think or "know" they don't hold back players at a whim, there is always a reason. For Merredith and Smith they held them back until we had two young men who can start and hold their position as, well, men not kids. Yet they played Hanners as a school kid, because he was ready. I do not know what is going on with Vez, we all like him, but there will be a reason. And a B good one.
The AFL coach=GOD. In this cruel "dog eat dog" world its good to know there is someone who we can trust. Despite evidence everywhere in life of less than impartial decisions made for promotions in the workforce, lay offs etc and hundreds of other decisions this kind of stuff does not exist in AFL coaching. Its nice to know there is someone who rises above this moral moras.. That someone is the AFL coach who we believe in with a faith surpassing religious faith. They have a reason and a good one for every decision. These people are truly a cut above every boss I have ever known and nothing like the 15 odd coaches I played under.Maybe we should be nominating Roosey for Sainthood? Saint Paul??
No someone else has already got that one!

Alternately, as a manager I know the strengths and weaknesses of each of my team. I think I'm good at it and I know how each works better than they do themselves - and certainly better than their teammates or my clients who largely rely on their persona or a few minutes contact. I'm employed to get a result and I pick the team that gives me the best chance of doing that - if not I'm failing my shareholders.
Vindictive about my underlings? Why bother? If they annoy me that much (and that'd be very rare) I'll get rid of them. Of course, if they breach workplace rules they may have to be sacked, whether I like them or not or even if they are doing their job well, otherwise. Trainees? Pick the good ones, discard the rest.
I find the best way to have my staff work well is to bind them as a team and have them work for each other and the company. It's called managing and it's what I'm employed to do.

So that sounds fantastic...but have you ever made a mistake? Have you ever made an error of judgement? Are you totally impartial in all your dealings? Do you prefer some work styles to others? Can you work with someone you dislike immensely yet who is good for the team? Are you above criticism? How do you handle criticism?
All i am saying is that we should not assume coaches can't also have human failings and make major mistakes in any area. Coaching is also more than just being a good manager, its about leadership and inspiration.Great coaches are hard to find because stern managers often fail to inspire and inspiring leaders often fail to manage. IMO.I rate Roosey but also believe he has made a few mistakes this season. I believe We should all be able to voice criticism of the coach without the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse descending on us.The role of the coach is pivitol in a footy club, and therefore he should not be above crtiticism nor should we assume every decision is always a good one.
Bad decision IMHO. Hyper defensive player replaced with non-defensive player. Shaw may need to be thrown back as a result.Rohan would have been a smarter move.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!
