I took my 5 year old niece to the football yesterday for the first time (trying to boost her appeal for the Swans - they are her team of choice at the moment - parents are Bombers supporters). Thankfully she is too young to really understand what was going on (when we scored a goal in the last quarter she asked me if I thought that the Swans would win). I spent a large portion of the game making sure she enjoying herself rather than concentrating on the game - which was a blessing - what a disaster.

Not sure if we will make it to the finals now.

Was there yesterday and stayed till the end. Yes, the umpiring was disgraceful, but that wasn't the reason we lost the way we did. Melbourne pretty much put on the same game plan Collingwood put on against us, thus the result.

The amount of time allowed to our players to dispose of the football was minimal as the Dees just kept putting pressure on the ball carrier constantly creating indecision and mistakes by our boys. Where as our boys just seemed to watch and coral the dees and give them plenty of time to dispose of the ball and hit targets easily.

Why cant Roos get our boys to 'HUNT' the opposition down like we've done in the past(03-06). It seems that a lot of teams seem to be 'HUNTING' us down more and more these days.

Full credit to the Demons, they fully deserved to win that game by probably more than just 73 points in the end. I'm convinced a large majority of our boys realy thought that all they had to do was just turn up yesterday and go 'through the motions' and come away with a 5-6 goal win. Little did they know they came up against a well prepared and fired up Melbourne team.

Our best was far and away Adam Goodes, Jack, McGlynn and Malceski. Forget the rest.

And if I hear one more comment about Jetta being one of our best yeaterday, than sorry, but that person has no idea about todays football. He was terrible yesterday.
the thing jetta did do ok was try to take the game on, unlike a lot of his team mates, that what i did like about him yesterday, it didnt work much, but least he had a go. Poor Kid needs that first goal soon
Theres not much left to say

He sure does. He loses confidence so easily when things don't come off - and then stays out of contests that he could influence, in the hope that a team mate would win the ball instead. He needs to keep backing himself, take the game on more than he already does, and use his speed defensively and offensively for as long as his tank will allow.

That's why I didn't mind Goodes handing it off to him when he had the set shot. Goodes is a team player, and although Jetta missed it it showed the faith his mentor has in him, and that's got to count for something.

The goal will come. So will more. Que sara sara.

Yeah, I liked that idea also - although they should probably do it in the goal square next time, just to get the monkey off his back.

No, you have no idea about football. Of course, very little of what Jetta did came off. That is unfortunate, as it could well have. However, the thing that separates Jetta's effort from the vast majority of the team's is that he left everything out on the field. When others gave up, he was still chasing. When an opportunity to hit back at the Dees came up, he took it and did everything he could to create, to spark the team. But he had nobody to kick to, no options, no support. If every player had played with Jetta's intensity yesterday, then we just might have come away with a win.

In the end, Jetta didn't contribute much. But when he put in a 100% effort when few others would, it's very difficult to be critical of him for it.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

NO WAY!!!! Not from where I was sitting. He made a couple of great dashes, granted, which ended up to nothing.....I'm not having a go at him for that. What I am having a go at are his half hearted attempts at spoiling and tackling.

I dont expect him to pull of game saving tackles and game saving spoils, but the effort he puts into the defensive side of his game is poor to average to say the least. On at least 3-4 occassions I just saw a lazy footballer out there, maybe its a confidence thing, maybe its not, but you will never EVER convince me he was one of our better players yesterday..........NO WAY!!!!!!.

that hurt. just as well its a game. if it was real life I would probably be calling for a royal commission. as it is I can honestly say that a short memory is a blessing.

wished they had played reid in defense. jetta, well, he tried hard, but he needs a year in 2s.

I did not see a lazy footballer out there at all. At the start of the year, he was a bit lazy. One thing that he really impressed me with on his return was his second efforts. He's probably not strong enough to lay full-blooded tackles, but his harassment and chasing was much, much improved from earlier in the year. I maintain that when others gave up, he was still going.

yeah jetta was having a good go out there, he should definitely keep his spot.

edit: what the hell was up with ROK??? he barely touched the ball! 2 (TWO!!) kicks and 8 (EIGHT!!!) handballs??? he must be carrying an injury.

I dont know BSA5, maybe you and I see things differently. What I saw yesterday was a man who needs to put a few kilos on and not sherk away from a contest.

Me too, but there is precedent where a premiership has been won by not bottoming out.

end of the day we need to put time into players like jetta and rohan if only because of the pace they have. We are the slowest side in the comp and need all the pace we can get

I don't think that's right. At the start of the season we looked very fast because we were slick. Now we fumble and look slow.
