As I am an old South Melbourne supporter( was born in Albert rd opposite the old South ground )
I am finding it increasingly disappointing when reading the sports pages of the Melbourne papers when the Swans win. There are reams and reams on the Vic teams but lucky to get 1/2 a page on the Swans.
I believe there are still a few thousand of us "Old Blood" supporters still alive.
I am very pleased to have found this site, I can now get a bit of REAL info. about The Swans.I'm stupid, I'm ugly, I'm dumb, I smell.... Did I mention that I'm stupid?Comment

Hey S.M.Blood, that is a real shame. There are thousands of you guys down there and you are pretty much ignored by your own media. But is the perceived Swans hate really that bad in Melbourne in general? Is this just a media attitude or is the man on the street a bit more forgiving of the swans?Last edited by dimelb; 7 September 2010, 05:24 PM.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. I reckon Gerard Healy is the most controlled media man on the planet, I turned on to "on the Couch" last night..... seriously I reckon he would want to throttle Mike Sheahan most of the time, but goes with the conversation like the impeccable diplomat that he is..... It wouldnt hurt him to even acknowledge that the Swans are a great club... instead NO "Vics was robbed!!!!!""We talked five times. I called him twice, and he called me twice."   :D

No agro I don't think we are the most hated, that honor belongs to Collingwood
In fact The Swans are a lot of footy fans 2nd team. It's the damn papers trying to beat things up.
If you can get to see the game on Saturday night on T.V. you will see a lot of RED and WHITE there.Comment

DOH! Of coarse!!!! How could I have been so stoopid? It's good to know we get some respect. How much support do you reckon we would get in Melbourne if it was a Sydney - Collywobble grand final? 50%-50%? The 2005/06 GF crowds seemed mostly red and white, but the the opposition were from way out of town too, so the colour count doesn't kinda count.Last edited by agro; 7 September 2010, 07:08 PM.I'm stupid, I'm ugly, I'm dumb, I smell.... Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond and Essendon news sells papers. The Age had no shame a couple of weeks ago with 16 pages on Collingwood in one edition, so I heard.
Dead set annoying is that tool Brereton who doesn't rate us and doesn't want to talk about us on SEN. On Monday night 2 Swans supporters rang after 20 minutes of post mortems on Carlton and Brereton just rattled on in his boring know it all manner. When the Swans fans got on he just shut them down with condescending and standover comments. 2 minutes of nothing and only mentioned Mummy, Jack and Pyke. The bloke has no idea of who our players are.
One Swans caller said we had lost our spine early in the season and all he could do was say, "name them" and didn't give the caller a chance to name them. It took Schwarz and Leach in the background to name them. He then said LRT didn't count as he wasn't a top ranked player. He had forgotten Bradshaw, Seaby and Bolton. Dead set flog who spends must of time walking around with his head up his own orafice.Comment

The biggest whingers by a country mile on radio are those bleedin' Hawthorn supporters. They are genuinely in denial and believe it is their right to be in the top 4, and can't believe it just didn't happen. They just have the best team and believe me they are crucified by the umpires. Conductor Kennett seems to have them all playing to his tune.Comment

Thanks Nico I too saw my first game around age 8 Ron Cleg #23 was in his early years of playing then.
I recall my family talking about the so called "Blood Bath" South and Carlton final. Do you remember the so called "Lake Side Premiership" between St Kilda and South? Thats when St Kilda was at the other end of the Albert Park Lake.I lived at 356 Albert Rd so I only had to walk across the road to the South Ground.Comment
