No Dylan has never played as a topup, it would have been noteworthy news at the time equivalent to the fanfare that Brandon Jack got when he played as a topup.

Pretty impressed with Swans Academy numbers in the U16s Rams squad. Should have done this 15 years ago

Looks likely we will nominate one this year

The Academy is looking to be doing a great job that will eventually flow through to the Swans. I think this years draft will be our first chance to select players, as it will be for GWS, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Please support any fundraising initiative for the Academy.

Technically we were able to last year too, and indeed, the club nominated a handful of players by the May deadline, but chose to nominate none to put on the list come trade week. (Lynch, as an ex-scholarship player, wasn't subject to the bidding process.)

Speaking of which, has anyone read anything about who they've put on the consideration list for this year? I thought the deadline was late May but maybe it is a little later than that. You'd have thunk that Jack, at very least, would be put on that list, and probably a few others too. (Again, as I understand the rules, Wray and Robinson are exemption from this pre-nomination process.)

Imagine if it does start to flow through to the Swans.

The scenario playing in my head goes like this
            1) Then Swans nominate half a dozen kids . . . .
            2) Other clubs big for several of them but
            3) We still get all of them, and
            4) Choice #96 turns out to be the next Chris Jud or whomever.

I can almost hear the screams of indignation (led of course by Everywhere Eddie) from the Victorian clubs.

Well, cousen Billy Bob came running out to the milken shed to give me the good news.

He said "Billy Ray, they have announced the Under 16's Ram Squad".

Hot diggity it's like Christmas in Australia, there's a Carroll and a Roos, there's a Bottin-Noonin and a boy from the Central Coast who goes to school near Wyoming - Josh Barty.

I just love a place that reminds me of home.

Well he probably would have played for the Swans if he could. She'll now become an honourary Australian.

Perhaps they could produce a singin, actin and mullet wearin boy as a future Swans. Oh..........................................I just remembered we have Warwick.

Not yet they can't, at the moment only Us, the giants, suns and lions may have an academy under rule 37.

The rule was created after the AFL realised what a pig's arse the NSW scholarship system was. You may recall that the NSW-SS was the result of intense lobbying (by Greasy Eddie amongst others) to stop the Swans attempt to get some sort of NSW recruiting zone. The idea of a NSW recruiting zone for the Swans was a non-altruistic attempt to kick-start the development of AFL capable players in the state. The need to kick-start player development was only recognised by the AFL after journo's like Caroline Wilson began embarrassing them by asking why there had been no NSW draftees in almost a decade. The lack of NSW draftees was of course the result of long running AFL policy of disinterest in NSW, the apogee of which was (in my opinion at least) the exclusion of the Rams from the elite TAC cup competition.

Frankly, since 1981 the AFL/VFL's interest in Sydney football has traditionally gone no further that the affect a token presence in Sydney has on the TV broadcast deals. And now I've wandered off topic (sorry).

The only other club I know of to establish an academy is Wet Toast, but because they're not included in rule 37 either it is only for the sons of former players (who they can recruit under the father/son rule).

Thanks R&R. Number 37 is my personal lucky number. Soo....not reading anything into it, but....

Glad someone else can understand AFL politics. I get lost.

Pretty Sue is so much more appealing than Nico. Was it a misprint and meant to be Peggy Sue?

The traditional aussie rules playing states are just far superior to NSW. Dozens of reasons. Start by blaming Councils for not allowing kids to play in the rain. Grass damage control.

Even Willy Nelson isn't that careful with his !!!
