its interesting as we took two mids in the first picks last year
ie Jones 15 and Hewitt at pick 32
That was quite a risk given we obviously wanted a tall / ruck at pick 35 in Nanny but we got both Hewitt and Nanny which was fortunate
I wonder if we took two midfielders in the first two picks ie Jones and Hewitt in the last draft because we basically knew we would take Heeney and Davis in this Draft ?
I hadnt contemplated how easy this draft made our picking of the last draft because we knew who we would get this year and we basically knew who was going to retire at the end of 2014 !
OR
Will we take two midfielders with our first two picks ? My guess is no given our midfield depth and the reality is that there maybe better talls then Abe. Abe may either go to another club or is our third or fourth pick when originally i thought we would get Abe as a Rookie.............
also alot depends on who retires or moves on ie ROK, Goodes, Shaw, Walsh, LRT, Dick, Lockyear, Biggs ?........
plus what will be our strategy with trades/salary cap........will a Towers, Mitchell or Rohan ask to move on for more opportunity - maybe? The strange thing occurring is that you cant have too many slower inside midfielders in your team like a ROK or Mitchell. So Although Mitchell is a certainty in any AFL team the concern is when you have 3 or 4 other slower classy midfielders and getting the balance right ie Mitchell is competing right now against Kennedy, Bird and Macca in our team as we need the balance of speed and agility on the field also with Harry, Lloyd, Jetts etc
I think we will draft 4 players and we will have 3 rookie spots available also to match 7 players moving on / retiring.........I also think Mitchell and Rohan will stay as we wont let them go yet...........not sure re Towers??

If no body bids for Davis in the second round before our 2nd round pick, we may take him in the third round, allowing for another strategic player in the 2nd round.
I think Rohan's prospects outside the Swans would not be high due to his injury history. The Swans have extended his contact and I think he and the Swans are committed to returning him to his blistering form. He would not represent strong trade currency after his injury struggles so I think the Swans will hold him instead of giving him away for nothing.
Mitchell has a year to go on his contact, so any trade the Swans make will be a good deal. It is totally up to Mitchell. I think money will also be a factor. Mitchell and his management probably believe that he is worth $ 450,000 - $ 550,000 on the open market. I don't believe that the Swans with many fine players on their list can accommodate that request.
I think Eddie, who expects to be admired by everyone, and give credit where it is due, he has done a fair bit for the good of footy, will never forgive Richard Colles or Adam Goodes (no longer wants to be friends). Will Sheeds now be added to Eddie's 'avenge' list?
Did anyone else see an article on Ross Oakley (I think that was the name - a past AFL Administrator (I think)!! Anyway, he stated that his finest achievement had been his appointment of Richard Colles to the Swans. He stated that at the time Sydney was an ALF basket case which had more or less passed the point of rescue!

I was very shocked we didn't go for Darcy Gardiner last year. I thought he fitted the mold for the backman we needed. He drifted to pick 22 but many tipped him to go in the low teens;
"Tall defender who is rarely beaten one on one. Has the ability to shut down the opposition's most dangerous forward. Close-checker who has pushed forward on occasions with some success. Keeps things simple and is strong overhead. Earned Under-18s All Australian honours in 2013."
You can tell by his first game how Zak Jones would be the kind of player we would be attracted to. And at pick 32, Hewitt must have looked a steal. There were still a couple of possible KPPs at pick 35 in Cameron Giles and Jake Kolodjashnij, but perhaps we had Allir on the radar and didn't want to risk losing Nanka. We also didn't know that AJ would do his knee again. There really weren't too many KPP standouts in last year's draft. I think the recruiting staff did well.
Did anybody catch the U18 championships on fox footy yesterday and have any thoughts on young Dunkley's game? I know they got flogged and he didn't feature in the goal kickers or best players but does anyone think he showed something to get excited about?
