I like the idea that if two teams are deadlocked in the GF it is replayed. I am sick of this American idea that you have to have a result in every game. If neither side is good enough to win it on the day within the allocated time, then a replay is the only fair way. Both teams start afresh with no injuries on a level playing field.

Jolly, after his 30 second goal was poor, especially when you consider Gardiner's injury which meant he was up against part-timers in Kozi and Blake.

The drawn Grand Final is the only way that Collingwood can win a premiership because of Collingwood's little-known last Saturday in September hoodoo. Collingwood have not won a Grand Final on the last Saturday in September since 1953. The 1958 Grand Final was on the third Saturday in September, and the 1990 Grand Final was on the first Saturday in October after Collingwood drew with the Eagles in a final.

Those fans of the other 14 clubs who didn't really want Collingwood or the Saints to win are happy.

            I agree

I understand the point about letting more members have access to tickets, etc, but why should any of the money go to charity? I have no problems with people donating money, or putting events on for a worthwhile cause, should they so desire, but shouldn't the league profit from the enterprise, as is normal - it eventually all goes back to the clubs (directly or indirectly) anyway.

Do you think that they need to pay some sort of penance for putting on another GF?

I wonder if the people opposed to the replay think Wimbledon should end 5th sets in a tie-breaker.

Completely agree (as a recovering Yank). I love that Aussie Rules has three chances - win, lose, draw.

Most supporters live to see their side play in a grand final and for some it never happens. All the lucky Saints and Pies supporters will get 2 in one year and the money is irrelevant. They will beg borrow or steal or mortgage the house if they have too and if their team wins they will feel no pain.

                    Yes.
They're going to make us sit through another Collingwood match!!
It was an idea Matt ... the AFL certainly doesn't need the money.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I agree with you 100%. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE JOKE!! The players may as well have not played. The AFL are just lucky that none of the non-Melbourne teams were involved because I can't imagine any of their supporters (maybe with the exception of some Swans fans) would make the trek to Melbourne 2 weeks in a row.

I went to the game yesterday with my dad and brother. Sat next to two Saints fans who drove from Perth, people behind us blew $4K on seeing them, so many stories. Still reeling from it though, never quite experienced anything like it in my life, leaving the G with 100,000 quiet people after a GF. Still feels surreal.

I disagree - there are several positives :

1)We get to see another GF !
2)Some folks who missed out may get a chance of a ticket for the replay
3)Some players who missed out may get a chance to take part.
                            (Mc.Evoy - you're IN . Presti - hmmm.... maybe .)
3)Schneider and Dempster are on world-record pace for most AFL GF's in a career :-)

I liked it - not anthem-like but authentic in its own way.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
