one on the way here, mother foolishly thinks it will follow the demons but if it wants to go to the footy with dad its swans or bust, a little emotional blackmail never huts anyone!

Remember the networks decide before the year which matches to broadcast and which to on-sell to Foxtel, which is why you can bet that the Bulldogs, Collingwood, St Kilda and Geelong will dominate FTA next year. Safest bet is to pick the top four from the previous year as ratings winners.
      I understand how it works.
I also understand that because of the way it works, the Collingwoods and the Geelongs will go from strength to strength, while some of the other Vic teams who don't draw the huge ratings will die off.
Personally I think it will be nice to lose a couple of clubs, we have too many down here.

Don't really want to rant on and on about FTA rights and my gripes with them again.
Search the board and you can get all the info on my feelings that you need.
I simply mention it as a case in point of how the Swans supporters will dwindle in Melbourne in the coming years, as I'm sure they have done gradually already.

As for all those who are breeding Swans supporters, we I really didn't expect anything less for people who are so passionate about the Swans taht they post on a message board regularly.
I am looking at those supporters out there who go to a few games a year, and watch a handful more on TV.
The access simply is not there to keep these sorts of people interested.
Their kids will support teams who they can access more readily.
      Simple as that..

In the end, the Swans live, and they nearly died 20 years ago, so I'm happy.
But I'm also sad that it's fast becoming too late to retain a large supporter base long term down here.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

I'm still waiting on DNA results so that might be doable.

It's a bit rough and ready, but you get the idea. I reckon we should move to a slightly darker red like I've got here, a bit more blood-like.
I would be happy with that. Good job!

You should email it to the club... you never know!

You'd better get onto it. My mate the mohel tells me that ostracision is not fun.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

My dog is definitely getting a pet membership next year. As for offspring, my girlfriend is coming over tonight, so I'll see what I can do...

I refuse to procreate with an actively non-Swans fan. A fellow Swans fan would of course be ideal, if I should be so lucky, but failing that, so long as they aren't an opposition supporter, I can ensure the Swans supporting lineage continues.

I am not sure that I am convinced about that. There probably was a drop off in support from 1982-1994, but I am not sure there has been anything to suggest that there has been any such decline since 1995. I don't have access to the stats - but what do the Melbourne membership numbers indicate? 2005/06 was not that long ago (and success builds support in the young) where there was a heavy focus on the dual identity of the club.

Sure TV coverage is an issue, but there are lots of things to distract the young from watching the football regularly. Boutique type memberships that offer supporters a chance to see half-a-dozen games a year might prove more attractive to some over the long course of an AFL season (which is basically what the Swans Melbourne members get).

I have often thought that at some point in time it would be great if the Swans decided to host a 'home' match in Melbourne - and promoted the heck out of it for their Melbourne fans - I would still think they would get a decent crowd for a one-off (or annual) event. There would be an extra game in Sydney with GWS anyway, so the market would not lose anything against a small-crowd drawing team.

It's a dream that probably will never happen, but I like the idea that someone might even hold up a sign that read: KSAS (at least for 1 game a year!).

As long as the strip is mostly red, that suits me. We are - actually they are - the bloods, not the plasmas.
I agree Primmy. When players are mostly white they look like a bunch of cream puffs running around out there. Red is a power colour. Having said that, I really like the 2009 heritage jumper, the one with the red diagonal stripe right across the chest and back (like essendon's but replace the black for white). You could have positive and negative variations on this for home and away games.

I spoke to the guys at the SCG shop last year about the 2009 heritage jumper and said it was one of the best sellers they have had. It sold out quickly in Melbourne too and you could not buy it from any official store towards the end of the season. I know cause I tried.

The above reverse version is a nice idea. i really like the idea of a different clash jumper every year or second year. I hope others post some suggestions up also caust the two so far have been great..
