Goodes deserves to be Captain. He is not in the same captaincy league as Kirk but he will do. His leadership aura is definately dampened by his displays of petulence at decisions against him,his lairising when we are in front and the two times he hung the elbow out trying to collect an opponents head in a less than fair manner. Great Captains don't play like this! Great player, average Captain.

My gut feeling is that the sole captaincy will elevate Goodesy's Mana...and make him a better player. He strikes me as the kind of bloke who needs careful stroking to bring out his (temperamental) best. Unlike, say, Kirky or Matthew Boyd. If Goodexy is sole captain he really will be "The Man" and, I think the team will benefit."I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

That's pretty much how I read it too, and I also understand the "somewhat of a contradiction" statement. I worried when he became captain in the first place, as he never struck me as captain material. Politician yes, mover and a shaker yes, captain of industry yes, champion of justice yes, but captain of a club of footballers, no. As Sharp said, somewhat fragile and can blow hot and cold. We really need a steady hand, am not sure that Adam appears to be all that 'approachable'. Like Kirky for instance. You can always imagine the 18 yos chatting to Kirky, but in my imagination Adam seems to be a on a different level and is not adept at getting back down to the kids levels. My gut feeling is that the sole captaincy will elevate Goodesy's Mana...and make him a better player. Maybe this is where he gets a chance to learn this side of his craft. However if he is in "charge" of the whole side on gameday, I do feel he may try to do too much all the time....its in his nature to do so.
I would not be surprised so see McVeigh in contention, nor Shaw for that matter (he is kind of like the favourite Uncle as I see it, approachable and has ethics), NicMal perhaps, Jude would be good, but I wonder if he would want it, Moore (yes I said Doggy, and I mean it).
Then again what on earth would we know.....its up to the inner sanctum and Horse. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

And so a perfectly intelligent introspective thread dies a slow death, mired in the mud of sexual inuendo. Some of you guys could do with a holiday in Thailand. Happy to pass on insider tips!
I thought Primmy's assessment of Goodes was excellent but are we all expecting too much of him??? Many stars on the field have been less than engaging personalities off the field. Look at Gary Ablett senior. On field leadership can be by example (Goodes,Jack) as well as verbal(Shaw,Moore)Comment

Apologies Prims, but Goodesy is very approachable.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
