Seven just showedthe GWS Swans game only and now it's on some crappy 80s movie starring John Candy AND Meg RyanComment

One has to have been at the ground between 7 and 8 with GWS game to fully appreciate how incredibly hot and humid it was out there. I reckon that sapping heat gave the fresh legged Gold Coast boys a four goal advantage for the game two match against the Swans.Comment

And one more thing - I was stinging to pick up my cap - in fact all four of us were - not only just because we wanted our 2011 cap but because we knew we'd be standing in the Sun for the next hour or so. To be told at 6.15?pm that they had run out of Caps and that they had not expected so many people to redeem them was a little ridiculous if you ask me. Bring on Round 1 proper!
There was a load of GWS people who appeared to have picked up their merchandise, but no cap for me.
They had to know that our of 10,000 people rolling to the game, maybe 10% would be members who wanted their hat, as per the membership kit?
Why wouldn't you just bus 4,000 caps out there just in case - surely that is only a couple of extra bootloads? They obviously have them, as they told me I could get them at the fan day tomorrow.Comment

Weird, I picked up my cap at about 6.05 and there were plenty left!Comment

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I was very surprised at how many GWS fans attended the game.....I would estimate as many as 30% of the attendance. And they didn't just attend, they were also wearing official merchandise and demonstrated at least a minimum understanding of the game. If I was a rugby league official spying on the event I would have left very, very worried.
The other thing I noticed was that the GWS fans were clearly going for the Suns against the Swans. The loudest cheer of the day came when the Suns snapped the winning goal after the McVeigh brain fart. This augers very well for the future rivalry.
I'm not ashamed to say I'm a member of both teams and I look forward to being able to watch 19 home games per year from 2012.
As for whether GWS supporters are bogans: of course, but then again us Swans fans are just geographically displaced bogans, so those in glass houses.......
Aside from the extreme heat, I think fans from all 3 teams would have left the ground with some positives.Comment

Neither you should be ashamed of being a member of both clubs. Don't let the narrow minded tell you otherwise...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Big Al, you are a treasure.
Now, I am recovering from the hot and sticky night out in the fresh air, and I would like to make a note of one thing. I am very proud of our boys for the way they played, but importantly the way they won against the Giants. They did not grandstand. They did not rub faces into the dirt. They allowed the losing team dignity in loss.
I missed the man and his absence was evident in the GC game, but it looks like dignity has remained at our club even without Kirky.
AND it was debilitatingly hot and humid. We also played a lot of inexperienced boys who have not had a major hitout WITH the senior Swans or VFL or whatever. I was not suprised at the close finish. I was surprised how GC flooded though. It made for very boring footy in the most part. Demetriou would not be pleased.
However, young Uncle Byron has taken things by the horns and should imo get a gig for a game or two this season; looked good. Teddy did some fantastic stuff. NicMal was practicing his darts and they must have hurt to take. I got pinged on the bum when a ball came over in the GC GWS game, I was leaving. Hilarous! Stung like mad, but it kept the crowd happy, anything to oblige. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment
