That thread reminds me why I don't go to BF anymore.

Although I must admit that many of the umpiring decisions were baffling.
The Bomber fans will also not admit that the early momentum we had in the 1st qtr was broken, by the softest 50m penalty I've seen for a long time.

At the game I was amazed by our defence. The midfield was letting the ball out far too easily so the backs were besieged. Smith, Reg, Marty and Ted all stood very tall yesterday and gave us a chance to win.

Our forwards had very ordinary delivery all day, too. When did "bomb it long and pray" become our style - with Goodes one of the worse offenders?

I had to watch some of the replay to see how good Jude was - other than his three goals. On his kicking - what a change that B1 is up there with Ben as the player I'm relaxed watching shoot for goal. Whoever coached him should take Goodes and Jesse aside as we could have had that game out of reach in the first 10 minutes.

yeah there soft frees for both sides....how about in the 3rd when Benny was contacted frm in front no free, and then 30 seconds later i think it was Hurley who got a free for exactly the same...even the commentators noted that it was soft and exactly the same....but it is funny listening to them whinge on BF....
We def need to ruckman next week.....Mummy wont be able to hold Cox and Natanui on his own, esp with Cox back to some real good form....but our skills need to improve for big spaces on Subi.......

From the naked eye watching at the game, the amount of free kicks we were getting was baffling... to win the game off that free kick was a strange feeling. I'll do anything for a win, I just want to feel that we truly deserved it. I think the boys showed real grit to stay in the game but we easily, easily could be 0-1-1 right now, winless after two rounds. But we're not, we're undefeated! woop!

Big up to mattner, bolton and teddy for outstanding games.

Smooch is a gem. He has his job and is probably going to be as unpopular as Crouchy with the opposition. Even AFL Prospects said not to pick him as his points were few, but be worried if he was playing on your player as he would shut him down. Lots of respect for HIS job in this team.

ORB and I toldyers all about young Sam. He is a gem to watch isn't he. If an extremely tall young man with the face of a choirboy can float, well he can. Wonder if we can attract young Ben up here as well.....dream on.

PS: Does anyone have an opinion on Everitt's game?

Essendon were getting away with throws and dropping the ball in our 50 all game (and out), including in the final minutes when they cleared our forward 50. They seemed to be hanging off and hovering over the loose bal, not wanting the tackle that would come with it, and if they did they seemed to flopping/dropping to their knee's more than usual. We wanted the hard balls more, and we got the 4 points. Should have piled on the pressure more in the first.

I didn't see much of Everitt on tv, what was his game like live?

                Bolton.... fk yeah!

Garry and Jetta had off games, a bit more composure and time on the ground will continue to do them wonders.

N Smith, is a bloody gem, sure a few clangers, but is usually spot on, and you can all ready trust him to get his job done on his player.

Kennedy, Jack and Hanners still seem down on where they finished 2010. They'll get there! Seem to start games slowly, but come home strong.

Bevo's goal from the pocket! Yummy.

Bird was solid in his first game back at that pace, did what was needed.

Mummy... Bloody huge effort to compete against those 2 ALL day.

Jesse, slowly creeping up that hill to where we want him .

Reid.... Lock away that contractual key. Fan-tastic hands and skills. He may well be "the" find over these past few years recruiting. It's 3 games in, but if he can stay fit (think he got a knock on his untaped shoulder near the end) and hold his spot in the team, a few years on the weights and im excited.

Benny Mglynn seems to be running out of puff, but he's a ripper kick and opportunist (in the bob up for a mark way, not crumbing so much). Like a young Milne with out the douche bag'ness.

A few others I have missed, but generally we are still getting match fit and getting the skills up to par. You can argue this and that, but there is no full way to recreate game pressure and fatigue in the preaseason. Pressure on skills is harder due to players knowing where the ball is going/what the defence is doing, also I'm doubting they are fully committing for not wanting to injure each other.

to be 1.5/2 against two quality up and coming sides is great, lets travel to the west and beat up on some weagles, the sweetest of victories

Yeah, an interesting one...He was unsighted for large chunks of the game, maybe his instructions were to keep his opponent away from the contest. When he did get the ball he did OK. Truth is I'm not sure whether he played well or not

they only notice the frees because at the end, its like the player after the siren missing, he gets the blame. These couple of late decision get isolated, but they dont go through the whole game and point out similar possible errors that happen minute to minute in an afl game. If they were good enough they would of held us off.

We played pretty poorly, but i think the fact we were good enough to run back and win was a big plus.

Hard to say from the telecast as I couldn't tell what his role was or who he was playing on, but saw very little of him, perhaps those at the ground could enlighten us

Had a couple of one on one contests and was well beaten, feedback from Doggie supporters was that he's not a key defender and on limited evidence this appears to be correct.

He appears to lack intensity and I'm just not sure what his best position is, with Kennelly coming back in, I don't see him as a regular in our best 22.

Im not sure what role everitt is being asked to play in the team, has he been recruited to be tall defender? if so he should probably have taken ryder instead of super ted?

Teddy is not up to playing on the first string forwards. Paddy Ryder was giving him a bath. i like Teddy but only on the second tier forwards. I'd like to know from the ressies watchers if Lewis J is ready for a game in defence? Kennelly will prob come back for Everitt. McVeigh should not have been playing sweeper as he is not suited. I thought we played pretty badly most of the day. Our delivery was @@@@e. The skill level was very low and if we continue in this vein we are going to start dropping games. Very lucky to be playing an inexperienced Bombers. When will TDL be back? if Lamb is playing that well, 6 goals is pretty good, maybe he will get a game next week. Love Reid, moves so well, reminds me of a bloke who played a lot of games for Adelaide some years ago. Want to see Parker on the park as I think from what I saw of him he is a prospect. Bird did pretty well yesterday and his skills were good. Poor little Lewie had a dirty day, he just kept fumbling all day. Best game I've seen from Ryan in a long time, I think he is fully fit this year. Our midfield was far too loose & so were the backs. Bevo had a blinder I have always liked him as a forward option but definitely not down back he stinks there. Need big skills sessions this week at training.

                            Jus a few thoughts

Our backline tried their guts out.

People who knock Smith have NFI and have probably never played or coached.
Mattner is underrated. Crows people bagged him about his brain explosions. He he will do the occassional @@@@@@up but saved our arse yesterday.
Jury is still out on little spider - lets wait and see
Bolton, Goodes,O'Keefe - great leaders and lead by example.
Reid is a talent - puts Jessie under the pump
Mummy - just love him, beaten early, comeback strong, never gave up
Beaven - I hate wests(local sydney team) but plays like a collingwood small forward
in that he puts pressure on the opposition defence. Never to play back again
where he gives away too many frees
Jetta - needs to run and carry more - no one can catch him. Put doubt in oppositions mind
Hannaberry - 200 game player for the future

Rohan - needs to play the whole season all over the park. Like reid a potential star
Shaw - poor options - under pressure from the return of Tadgh
Kennedy - quiet yesterday but love him
MCGlynn - rough diamond but love him

I was rather disturbed by some of our skill errors and the ease with which Essendon cut through our defence. I recognise that we are missing players down back, but LRT has a history of injury issues and Bolton was always going to struggle to get up this season, so that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Everitt doesn't seem like the answer from the way he was so easily out-positioned and out-muscled.

Really impressed with Reid, McGlynn continues to prove that he is a brilliant recruit, Goodes has continued his pre-season form and Jude is looking fantastic.
