Just watched the game on FOX again after being there live today. Bruce McAvany with 10 minutes to go, "The umpires have been magnificant today, I hope the Giesch is watching!"

Gutsy win today by the lads despite playing some ordinary footy. However, a sloppy win is better than a well played loss!
    Swannies for life!

I just watched the complete replay and I believe your observations are way off the mark.

I guess if you mean this is his second season and he has been at the club for 18 months, then we could debate in footy terms at AFL level with vastly differing views on what could be constituted as "around for a while now". Again, having just watched the complete replay I would suggest that Jetta's game was no where near as bad as some people are suggesting. Seemed to be around the action a lot of the time and got caught a couple of times just like 41 other players on the ground, and did turn it over a couple of times, but I doubt there is anyone in the reserves who could take his "position and purpose" in the team right now.

I agree with Nico, thought he was very good for 4 quarters. We would have lost without him.

I noted today that for some decisions (after blowing the whistle) they took a very long time to show who they were awarding the free kick to.

The other thing that people watching on telly would not have seen was that as everyone at the ground waited for the light to flash for the umpire to bounce the ball after a goal, the bomber ruck group (4 of them) would all huddle together on the centre square as if to plan what they would do after the bounce. I hadn't actually seen that done before by a team. They didn't take up their positions until the umpire positioned himself to bounce the ball.

Jettas kicking was poor and that showed in the replay. The good thing is that he got a lot of the ball and was trying to create. He just had an off day with the boot. Talk of dropping him is premature imo.

                Agree 100%.

Nick Smith was a star today. He butchered one or two disposals - the rest were class.

                An unsung hero IMO.

Agree with this too, but I bet someone will beg to differ.

If he was a star then he would have been picked in the best. Still think he's had better games and was a bit off today.

Smith had an off day...?? You've got be joking. Go and have a look at the replay. His decision making and coolness under pressure were fantastic.
There isn't a player in the league that doesn't do a dodgy kick or 2 during a game. ( Some of Goodes floating toe pokes for example)

I watched the replay last night. At the ground I thought Jude had an excellent game. After the watching the televised version, I now think he had an absolustely awesome game. He seems to like playing the Bummers.

I'm in the camp that believes Smith was pretty darned good too. He had a couple of early fumbles but was very solid after that.

Jetta had a stinker but that happens occasionally. The only reason I can think for dropping him this week is to prevent West Coast people getting in his head to try and persuade him he wants to go home to Western Australia.

I also realised just how fine a game Marty M had. I thought he was a player who might be in danger of losing his spot this year - and by the end of the year, hopefully we will have the "problem" of fitting LRT, Kennelly AND Malceski back into the team. But after an excellent game last week he was again one of our better players this week.

And as often happens, my view of the umpiring changed slightly. Watching at the ground, I thought we clearly had the better of it (after 1/4 time). But despite the lop-sided count, it was hard to take issue with many that were given and very few 50/50 ones seemed to be missed (and those that were missed were evenly distributed).
