Round 3 - Swans v. West Coast Game day thread

Jesse wasn't THAT bad! Up forward kicking goals, monstering and blocking, and backup ruckman. Mumms wasn't rucking 100%. Jesse did his bit, and I assume the coaches are quite in tune with shifting the game plan around it so that the midfielders can crumb off the opposition when Mumms was resting, which is what happened.

You can't expect a ruckman to be 100% effective - they never are. But I was darned impressed with some of the clearances under the circumstances! and by that I mean the all australian quality ruckmen they were up against!

I posted elsewhere that I thought that was one of White's best ever games - 3 goals and 2 assists. He may not have won hitouts but he provided a contest - plus we won the clearances.

Mummy played his best quarter in the last, so I'm not sure how shagged out he was. After the gamble with Seaby in round 1, which probably cost us 2 points, I think Horse now is feeling he's got the right ruck/forward/sub strategy. Rohan's run and ability to get to a contest was key to us beating the Eagles. I can't see us sacrificing that to a 2nd ruckman.

Intriguing stat - of the Eagles' first 11 goals, 9 came from when Natanui was rucking, 2 from Cox. Maybe because when Cox was off Mummo was also being rested??

Good point Shock....or maybe Nicnat is better than Cox? oohhh, treacherous words perhaps, but.... I admit to admiring NicNat, he is a sight isn't he. Ebony in Action. Not quite as elegant as Goodsey, but I wonder if he wants to live in Sydney?

I also think that Mumms is a carthorse worker, the more you give him the better he likes it. (Not like me....I have never understood passion for more work...)

Did anyone feel we were one ruckman short last night? I know which we won (which is obviously the main thing and fantastic!)...but we could have left Jesse forward more had Pyke or Seaby played.

I frequently think we're one ruckman short, but we may have been quite close to playing Pike this week.
He was the only emergency that doesn't seem to have flown back to play against Eastlake in the reserves this week.

Nat lived for a little while in Sydney as a child but his parents decided to leave (and beat the rush). He's great to watch and unfortunately is only going to get better.

Maybe with the new interchange as it is, when NicNat comes on, rather than going off, Cox goes forward and creates mayhem and scoring opportunities...

That's what I thought. It's his old home crowd. As long as he doesn't make a habit of it in a cocky style.
I'd love to see him do it to the Pies crowd at the MCG, though when he kicks us to the lead with seconds to go, in a final, any final, esp. a GF!!

It was a pretty awesome goal by Jetts and it was exactly the type of run and goal we and the coaching dept want from Lewis.

I thought though in defence they opened up our right hand side defence more then our left

I'm with you on this one Al. It wasn't a rude gesture or abuse towards the crowd and a little personality in our game doesn't, in my mind, hurt anyone. I doubt he was seen to break the D/head rule.

Nothing compared to that collingwood tool and his gesture. I'd put the bastard back with his mates!

He hasn't been mentioned on any list. Not mentioned on the weekend round injury list on last night's After the Game.

After watching the replay I have to say that I thought Johnson was very good on his debut. He had 3 or 4 very important moments in the last quarter that were super 1% plays. I like the look of him as a player.

Oh and I thought the long Sydney chant sounded good at the ground- sounded superb coming through on the telly as well (epsecially with about 50 seconds to go!)

Find it ridiculous Mattner isn't there at all, and Cox gets 7 and Mumford gets 1. Horse should pull his head in with that Mumford vote....he stopped him looking a tool. Biggest pre match dice roll of all and it came off for him. Mumford should have been absolutely worked over, and wasn't. Don't think it'll happen again (against teams that play 2 quality ruckman).
