Round 3 - Swans v. West Coast Game day thread

Agree, I don't rate it. (Although Magic's 2006 v West Coast celebration is a fave haha)

Even though kicking the winning goal with a minute to go in a final would absolve anybody of criticism for an over the top celebration, John Candy and the rest of his Weagle mates still got the last laugh just 3 weeks later. Karma can be a biatch....

Still a fave tho and is periodically resurrected as the screen saver for my work PC....lol

......well........ being on holidays this week and sipping on a few wines over dinner with the family could NOT even come close to sedating me for that heart starter of a game !!!!

two previous weeks of adrenalin pumping, aggravating, frustrating and relieving football almost broke me last night until the last 5mins !

I stand by my comments the last few weeks.........with us playing so high in defence it has made it a massive challenge and secondly having new players in defence and loosing loosing such quality defenders it is an amazing challenge for us after only 3 rds................not to mention Grundy having a very wobbly few weeks.

Then on top of that we have a new FF who has only played 4 games into an AFL career

then on top of that a new coach and a midfield that struggled in rd 1, improved a little rd 2 and rd 3 started to get it together..........with our two most consistent ie ROK and Macca having strange games ie Macca and ROK especially not delivering their passes well at all even though Rok's possessions were handy

I am so glad to be 2 wins, a draw, no losses after 3 rds................and I am just glad to be into rd 4 and here are my positives !

Reid and AJ - Look like they could go onto to be 10 yr players for us

Our midfield are tradesman without doubt and there are so many mid fielders that would be rated higher but they are starting to get it together this week and Jetta improved today !

Rohan and Incy showed they can play either end of the field and I was pumped by seeing Rohan just looking like he owned the forward line !

Much prefer Rohan as a forward than a defender - at least at the moment. But Everitt also looks better there. Suddenly, lots of forward options (too many when TDL, Moore, possibly Bradshaw come into contention) and maybe not enough rebounding defenders. It is becoming my catchcry this season, but we need Kennelly back as soon as he is ready, and looking forward to the return of the bionic man too.

Was at the game last night....the Umps got the Weagles back into the game on many occassion with soft free's esp the ump that looks like he is 60..not Nicholls or the short one with dark hair, but the other one..he had a shocker..
To be no losses after 3 rounds with the way our skills have been and regardless of how the eagles end up this year to be beat them at home is no mean feat, considering their top players Cox, Emb, Kerr are firing and they fired last night as well, and considering we only ruck with Mummy and White pinch hitting.....
I like Everitt up front good hands and could be a good role for him to keep Goodsey more in the midfield..
White needs to play like that week in week out,k considering Bradshaw may not return...
Young Johnson did well for debut, but our 2nd kick out of defence needs work, too many out of bounds last night or missing open guys further up field...
And also defence was a bit loose on occassions esp with Lynch up there marking everything that came his way..(LRT was missed there)
I wouldn't be too concerned with LJ's goal celebrating, was in front of crowd where he came from, so no big deal..(mind you the goal was awesome and it did shoosh the Weagles fans up pretty good)
All in all was an awesome win for the guys, the swans fans at the ground were loud and proud last night...
Rohan was a game breaker in the last qtr no doubt and his skills was excellent and that effort on the wing was a game breaker..

Exciting game but not a great one. I can't believe how many targets we missed and how many times we fumbled the ball when it was on the ground. I lost track of how many times the Weagles grabbed a ball we should have had because someone struggled to pick it up. Reg wasn't alone in this but it does appear to be something he struggles with.

Jude - awesome
Jetta - seemed a lot more committed. a few very good defensive second efforts in particular
Goodes - all class
Mummy - great but I'm worried about him burning out. I still think another ruckman would have helped us. NicNat killed us when he went in there.
Incy - great finishing in the 4th quarter
Rohan - I disagree with a few here in that I think he did the perfect job that the new rule requires a sub to do. He had a huge impact as a fresh, quick player and helped turn the game our way
Smith - 2nd best on ground for mine (behind Jude)

What the hell was that goal umpire doing btw? I can accept a mistake when the ball is really high and it's tough to see which side of the post it went but that one was a dead set simple call.

I'm not sure if he was shooshing the crowd or blowing the smoke from his smoking finger, but either way, I agree with LK, it just puts pressure on himself by being a bit of a dickhead (Sherman analogy is very apt and Didak *spit* is another one who likes the 'shoosh').

I'm sure somebody will say he is just being himself, but there will be plenty of time for those shenanigans later in his career when he makes his name as a top line player and excitement machine and recognised by the footy community at large. At the minute, he is just 'that guy who plays for Sydney who kicked 19 behinds in a row'.

Except when he is Leroy.

Primmy, I was at the game on the fringe of the large swans supporter base... can I tell you that I was so sick of the ferals near me that i urged all of the swans fans among the ferals to make some noise... the cheer was fantastic. The ferals hated it.

Were you at ground level or in the top tier no 14? I was down at ground level and the ferals down there were awful- especially the guy in the front row that I am sure is Dave Hughes's long lost twin brother (on looks alone not on comic ability!) His mouth was spouting garbage all night, a lot of it cringeworthy to say the least and I took great pleasure in the send off he got from a bunch of us swans fans at the end of the game. They have more than their fair share of abhorrent ignorant fans!

Liz do you think that AJ with his versatility on small and large attackers could step up ahead of Bevo and be in the 22 even when Kennelly comes back ?...........I am leaning that way given Shaw can push forward and so can McGlynn and Bolton etc etc

I was in the foward pocket near the fence.. to be precise... block 144, row C... the biggest idiots were in row D & F
The guy behind me brought his family (looked like 2 x 6 year old boys) and the filthy language from the dad was embarrasing... I ended up commenting loudly "I just feel sorry for the boys - imagine what they will be like when they are 16"... he controlled himself for a little bit thereafter.
