Wondered where this thread was going......

OK, I admit I have a bit of regard for Drey (as they call him) with his little secret smile that flickers on and off. I do agree that he can do better, and that there is potential. I suppose its when you see kids like AJ who just took up the gauntlett and ran like the wind, and Hanners who was still at school when he played his first games, that you get a bit "well.....waiting waiting waiting......go on! Perform!".

He also has the added burden of a favoured brother, although somehow I don't think he is the kind of bloke this would ultimately worry.

But the most telling thing imho, is that the club kept him and that they didn't shop him. I agree, there must be a bit of upside left in him, and I am looking forward to seeing it. Actually I don't think I have seen a 'bad' game from him either, its just that the other seniors are playing 'better'. Not all the time mind, but often enough.

I am also looking forward to seeing that crap haircut grow out. Some things just oughten be allowed.

I like him but he has trampoline hands and you will NEVER see him at the bottom of a pack. He reminds me a lot of Cheese in that aspect. Having said that, he is a beautiful kick, so if he can actually get the ball then he would be a huge asset.

Just checked back in for a sec and I am probably going to miss my bus, but oh Dosser!!! Drey like Cheese!!!! No no no. Cheese didn't give a @@@@, and Drey does. And some players are rarely found at the bottom of the pack (Plugger, Dunks, Stuey, Jetts, Pyke, Reid,), its not what they are good at and their bodies don't cooperate.

I place great store on how the other players react to each other, and they have always supported Drey when he plays. That's my benchmark. I have rarely seen the boys 'support' someone they didn't respect. And I judge what they think that bloke can do by their reactions.

I agree with Aunty, Ted took a long time to become the player he is. It took LRT longer, and now we wonder what on earth we would do without him, along with Shaw. Don't think Drey is in that category, but I think he can turn himself into a useful player if the self belief is ignited.

Ummmm LRT at 21 could've pinched a Norm Smith? He's been up and down but i don't think you can say it took him longer than Ted to get it. LRT was holding down key position defence a few years back now, and doing it very well too.

I don't even think he has been up and down form-wise as a back-man if you disregard his injuries. Like Dale Lewis always looked lackadaisical, LRT always looked a bit clanger-prone, but I don't think he was. I wonder if he still throws up with nerves before each game.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

Andrejas certainly showed a bit more this year, although still not quite enough to consolidate a place in the 22 (although injuries didn't help his cause).

I've been highly critical of him as his output doesn't match his talent, but as I've stated before it would be a massive win for us if he could put it all together.

Looking forward to see what he can do in 2013

                Re: Everitt the New White

Everitt is one of those guys who tries hard but doesn't have the talent to cement a spot. Having said that he's a pretty good depth player and can play different roles for us in need.

I'd be happy to c him being groomed as a backman. Especially if we don't get Tip which would mean LRT is less likely to return to the backline. I like him but don't see much possibility for him cementing a senior spot anywhere else.

OK, so comparing him with Cheese wasn't mature... I just meant that he runs past the ball instead of to it, and he spills more marks than he takes. I think his marking is my greatest frustration, as a man with his height, pace and kicking ability is wasted if he simply cant get the ball.

Oh, and hope you got the bus.

Funny, AE also makes me think of Cheese the way he tends to hover around the pack. I wonder about the fact that Jets, TDL, Morton ... have all had to slave away on the defensive side of their games and AE has escaped. You don't expect him to be under packs but you would think that he could use his height to advantage in packs and to lay an effective tackle or two from time to time! Perhaps if he tags Adam Goodes all summer, or AJ or Teddy, it might help.

With a footballing background he hasn't got the same excuses as Jesse and he was also a top 10 draft pick (or something like that) and Jesse was a 70's draft pick. Looking at the players around the top 10 mark for this draft you have got to think AE has a huge upside! Hopefully this year is his breakout year.

Missed the bus dos, drove instead.

Look if y ou have a few hours have a look at some of Jude Bolton's earlier efforts. He bounced around the outside of the packs like an excitable puppy. I used to roar with laughter at him because he was all blond haired and red faced, but he was just so earnest about it all .... and floppy and bouncy.

LRT used to look positively embarrassed if he did anything of note. Mostly that was because he was/is very diffident about himself and his abilities. Its been a kicker to see a bit of mongrel surface during the granny.

They all have to learn their game at AFL level. Some take much longer than others. I am not saying Drey will ever be a world beater, but he can kick straight, and he has done that under pressure too. You never know. I would love to see him crank up volume a bit.

I think, for what it is worth, that AE is an example of the tall wingman like saddington or the fourth forward who is a genuine out and out forward - very similar to the former st kilda forward jason heatley - they are both excellent straight kicks and really need to be the fourth forward because they can't win enough of the ball against really good defenders. I don't think he can play in defence - his body strength is not there so against the taller bigger forwards (just like saddington in this regard) they just can't compete. But when you can get the ball to him he really is a very decent kick with a good footy brain.

I like him and hope he goes well, but the vespa everitt trade was a classic trade of two highly ranked players who just haven't been able to make the transition to the AFL at the level that was expected. He remains a pretty decent player to have on our list though because he is versatile - he can play pretty much anywhere as a tall, albeit nowhere as well as those in our first 22.

I'd really like to see him change that but 5 seasons at AFL level or so gives you a pretty good idea of what you are going to get.
