The otherpoint i was trying to make was to give Jesse a full game at ff and not put him on the ball- ff is probably the hardest position to learn (given his basketball background) he needs time at ff not trying to play backup ruckman.
This is the exact reason I want to see Pyke get an extended run in the side. Mumford cannot ruck all day (no one can) and our other pinch-hitting ruckman of years gone by - LRT - is still coming back from injury through the reserves. Pyke and Mumford to rotate rests through the forward line, 3 runners on the bench, Reid at CHF, White at FF and Goodes back in the midfield (if his groin is up to it).

Pyke has to stay. I'd bring in TDL, Parker & Grundy and take out Everitt, Jack and White. I'd give Jetta a go as sub had Rohan not been injured but we need his pace. I'd be very tempted to include Seaby as well though and go with the extra tall. It seems to be working ok at Essendon....

I agree with you. Mumford although tall, actually plays like a medium size player. He gets down and dirty and is effective at ground level. He is a gem! I am having a recurring dream as ardvaak has hinted.....could we turn him into a Plugger? We lose a bit but not too much by using Seaby and Pyke in the ruck but think what we gain by having a monster at FF who can play tall and also get down low.As you say Essendon are doing ok with 3 talls as its the type of tall that is the real issue. Having him at FF means that if we are getting beaten(No play at FF) we can always give him a run in the ruck and he will have the energy to go. The current policy with him will see him injured!!!! a guy that size can't ruck all day like he has been doing for a full AFL season. Wake up quick selectors and coaches and don't abuse the big heart of this big guy!

TDL will not play. Playfair said the 5 goals flattered his performance. LJ got some raps but "has to continue his improvement".

To judge Mike Pyke's Performance against Carlton on a night like that is a joke. I think if its dry in canberra this w/e he will show how much of a player he can be and i want to see brian taylor on AFL teams say that he is infact a quality player. Just as a btw the reason Mike is being put in over seaby is because he has performing better in the ressy's.

I think another loss like friday nights should have the coaches considering whether we can really challenge for the top 4 this season i dont think we can as the loss of jack and malcheski early this year has cost us dearly i would say both these players especially Jack would be in the top 5 players of the club. I think if when we vs the dogs and it doesnt go to well longmire should be getting a lot of the youngsters into the team and preparing for a big year next year and challenging for the premiership.

            Just my two cents.

The thing with TDL though I don't think he is ever going to be a player to kick 5 goals and get 25 posessions and dominate a game.... but he should be picked imo on the basis he is a very good goalkicker and if he gets 5 shots at goal, he will probably kick 4 of them. We are crying out for the alternative style of forward he is in the team, and as long as he works hard when he doesn't have the ball, then he should be in the team. We need to diversify away from this very tall model we are currently using, as its just not working in my opinion.

I doubt it is about possessions but about forward line pressure. He has got reasonably good at run down tackles, as we remember from the EF against Carlton. He not only laid the one on Armfield but produced a couple of other ones during that game that were pretty good. But a few comments from Longmire and Playfair this year and from TDL himself at the end of last year indicate that they stilll want him to step up his defensive work inside the forward 50 arc. He's not that great, yet, at the repeat-effort tackles from short distance that teams use nowadays to keep the pressure on in their forward line and where you don't get a chance to get up a head of steam in a long chase.

Why does Pyke have to stay? Gone are the days when you can carry a ruckman simply on his tap work, Pyke offer nothing around the ground at all.

We need 2 ruckman to let Mummy have a rest and the best we have is Pyke. To say he offers nothing around the ground is harsh imo especially if your basing this on his only game this year on a very wet night. He offers plenty of size and bulk around the stoppages and as we saw last week his willingness to tackle has increased.

Tell that to Gibbs and Jamison, and ask Jack who got him the ball for the Swans' "play of the week".

One-on-one in the forward line on Friday he wasn't effective, but I think you are being unfairly harsh on the Moose.

I think that we need to keep looking at TDL. When I see him play I just think he could develop into another Nick Davis - he has the boot and the smarts and a very similar work ethic!?!? Having said that, just like Davis, if he gets the ball 5 times in a game then it will probably be 3 goals - and that is something that we desperately need right now IMO.

Agreed with everything you just said.

Give him more time in the seniors and he will be in the top 15 at the end of the year imo he will never be as good as mumford or any other high tier ruckman. But he has the skills to be mid range ruckman and a dangerous forward if he learns the role a bit more. Give him time and he will shine thats my moto for him.

Saying he offers nothing around the ground obviously you haven't seen the amazing tackles he puts on the opposition if you havent watch abloodsmans vids and see for yourself.
