I suggest we just forfeit now and save everyone the time, effort and money to watch us get thrashed by Collingwood. For if we don't react to what happened today and dish that same rubbish up, we will get absolutely walloped next week. I am glad that I can't make it to the game next week- that could be a good omen, because when I miss games at ANZ (Nth Melbourne Final a few years back, Essendon this year) invariably we win. I don't think that will help this time!

I agree Captain about our defensive mindset. It kills us time and time again. What really bugs me is our tactics trying to go forward. Now I know its a common thing in footy these days that teams try to creep it around the boundary line (or maybe bomb it around the boundary line), but what makes that the wrong tactic is that the best teams don't do that whenver there is a chance to take it down the corridor. Geelong cut St Kilda up numerous times last night by working hard and going straight down the middle. Carlton did it to us a few times today. Collingwood are brilliant at it. Hawthorn are very good at it. We however, don't do it, and instead its just a matter for the opposition of waiting for us to turn the ball over and killing us on the break. We aren't the only team out there with the same fault - the Bombers and Roos had a contest yesterday to see who could be most inept at going around the boundary line to try and make the most ridiculous turnover.

I just wish that sometimes when we had the ball we'd work harder with it and take the chance down the centre. Stuff the methodical rubbish that used to work in 05-06. It doesn't work anymore. Our forward line isn't functioning, but part of that is that so rarely when we get an I50 is it when there aren't 15,000 players back there. We need to find some dash down the middle, take some risks and give big Sammy and Goodesy some 1 on 1 chances at the back. Even if we turn the ball over occasionaly, it can't be anymore calamatious than it is going around the boundary line.

Back on topic, I'd expect Mummy will get a couple of weeks (rubbish rule imo but that's the rules!), Richards was really struggling as well. I'd also drop Kennelly, but it'll never happen. LRT will get a reprieve if Teddy is out as surely he will go back, but we have to give us the fantasy of him being a good forward (he was useless). He is either in our best back 6 or not in the team at all imo. Who to come in I'm not sure- apart from I want TDL in the team every week, and I'd like to see LJ again, but I'm not sure how to fix our current issues!

I would like to see Campbell Heath get a crack and take kennellys spot, from what I've heard from the ressies he is cool and calm under pressure and takes the right option with no brain snaps, something which Tadgh had plenty of today. Plus he would add some extra leg speed???

Also start playing forwards in the forward line!!! White, TDL and Johnston are forwards!!!!

We are going to only make top 4 on the ineptness of others, not our ability against the top 4. What's the point of making top 4 if we are going to get murdered by Collingwood in week 1, maybe win at home in Week 2, then butchered again in a Prelim. That's not writing down a prelim as not a decent result for a season, but in the end the ultimate goal is to win a Premiership, and barring a miracle of some kind, we are not going to do that this year by a long shot!

I'm not sure how you can say we keep 'improving'- as much as there are some good signs in the team, I think we are no better than last year. Teams around us (WCE and Carlton in particular) are vastly better teams than last year, but we are just standing still. I just hope we can use the off season to work really hard on tactics and our basic skills, for I think if we can get our skills back towards what we were like in 05-06, we have all the makings of a genuine Premiership threat.

... the selections of lrt seaby and mummy in the one team was a classic non selection - gutless non decision making.

We were rubbish for 3 quarters today, but selection has been woeful, particularly when we've played the top 4 - going in with tall sides against Geelong and Carlton in the wet, and it was a weak call to play Mummy, Seaby and LRT today. A convenient excuse to say TDL was ill all week.

I do believe that the forward structure has suffered by not having Jarred Moore in the team.

It's generous to say we have a structure really. When ball use isn't our strength, it's pointness having our forward line being the land of the giants. McGlynn is short but not a natural crumbing forward. We need guys like TDL and Moore desperately.

We have too many ordinary kicks, which is getting found out badly against the better teams.

Alex Johnson is a difficult one - he's been so good (particularly considering he's a first-year player), but he does turn the ball over a lot. Teams are leaving him free and conceding an uncontested mark and possession, but I think they're very happy doing that, as it means Grundy, Kennelly, Malceksi etc don't have the ball in their hands.

Barring injury or suspension the only change I can see them making is Seaby out - the easy option.

Lets all get one thing straight, dont waste space saying drop mcveigh. He is captain and is not getting dropped, whoever said johnston turns it over to much needs to get off the pipe. good deliverer from what ive seen. Midfield isnt the problem, so no need to change that i dont think we had more inside 50's so the forward line is what need to be tinkered with, which is why white needs to come in and be played soley in the forward line, TDL and johnston should also come in to help the forward line develop. who goes out is up to the coaches

Looked good again today against tough opposition and was very unlucky to be subbed off. Surely people can't still think Pyke is a better player. Seaby has clearly shown that he is our 2nd best ruckman over the past 3 weeks.

We need to lose some height and add some pace.

2. Send LRT to the backline - we'll probably need to if Richards is unfit.
3. Mumford is probably not fully fit, might get suspended anwyay, and we can't afford to risk him against Collingwood if he's even slightly injured, so leave Seaby as the ruckman.
4. Leave Goodes in the midfield and let him get back to doing what he does/did best.
5. Probably give Kennelly a rest this week, we can't have any passengers against Collingwood.

Very simple - kick it to Jesse. He won't mark it everytime, so we need support for him. That support should come from Sam Reid, and Trent Dennis-Lane if he's fit. He gives us a bit of spark up forward.

Amen brother.we can argue about the details but the main point is so obvious even the coaching staff must see it by now.WE MUST HAVE A FORWARD STRUCTURE. Way back the prediction was made that this would happen to us without a forward structure. The boys tried hard but nobody could score.Let's salvage the season with a forward line,its the main thing we are missing. Mine would be

Moore is even slower than Kennelley. We need speed. Moore is probably one of our slowest players. We already have lots of good contested footy players, we need players who can present options in our forward line like Johnson and TDL
