Haha. I do get sick of the notion that we don't understand the rules though. I've been to games in Melbourne and quite often you hear a chorus of 'ball' erupt when it clearly isn't. Let alone at the SCG when opposition supporters call it out. I suppose though when the Umpires don't understand the rules I can't blame them for thinking Sydneysiders don't

I agreed with Jim Main a few years ago, when he stated that a lot of supporters are idiots. And they are.
The difference between Melb and Syd supporters is that the Melb supporters think they know everything. Some do. Most don't.

I didn't really expect any other result, but the chamberpot AKA bubbles (I really like that as a nickname, not only does it imply no substance but it's also the name of Michael Jackson's monkey) "bubbly, gregarious" umpire showing his personality is infuriating.
A good (d)umpire should not be noticed, and after the geish's remarks bubbles will now have the impression that it is ok for him to stamp his "personality" on the games he is (d)umpiring

... since Dopey's umpiring failed to maintain a high standard, his comments are tantamount to a suggestion that incompetence is acceptable so long as the umpire shows some personality!!!!

The only good umpire is the one that nobody notices throughout the game ... the others are usually never have beens with small mans' syndrome and the obvious chip on their shoulder ... hmmm ... sound familiar!
yes, it is ok for an umpire to display his 'personality' on the field, however if a player does (even though the game is about them) then heaven help them...

              Yep.
IMO, sydney supporters are a bit more realistic.
Victorian supporters of all AFL teams simply 'play the game' and appeal anything evern if it's not there.
You'll never hear most of them say "wow, we were lucky to get that free - it wasn't there"
Gets a bit boring to hear the relentless complaining sometimes at the footy.

The AFL has leapt to the defence of enraged Sydney Swans supporters who verbally abused field umpires as they left the SCG following Sunday?s loss to the Fremantle Dockers.

?Sure, their threats involved quite a number of relatively serious contraventions of the Crimes Act? AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou acknowledged as he attempted to conceal his ?I heart GWS? T-shirt.

?But, I?m just so proud that Sydneysiders now comprehend our game enough to vent warranted outrage towards umpires.?

                Seriously ???
                Whose game ???
I wish this man would ring me so we could have a little chat.

Is someone going to fine him because he said "warranted outrage towards umpires"
So were we right after all ???

                I'm confused.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Annie, if you go back to the article ... In the top right hand corner is a link to a Barry Hall article. Click on that, and have a read.
Perhaps then you will put two and two together and know what sort of reporter "The White Maggot" is ...

There are two vocations that require copious amounts of whistle blowing, a meglomaniac personality , and a total ignorance and unawareness that you are making a total Ass of yourself. As luck would have it,both are overseas and would not be compatible with being an AFL Umpire.

Andrew seemed to me to be a bit condescending if in reality he did say all those things about Sydney fans. We don't know that he actually did say it. What is a Fly Half? Is that a Rugby Union or League expression? i have never heard it before. I have been following Aussie Rules since I was in the cradle some 50 odd years.

I'm vertically challenged but don't have a hang up as a matter of fact I'm damned cute!! Ray's not cute I don't think, maybe he has a hang up cos people don't think he's cute? We might be able to help Ray's ego by getting a poll to see who thinks he's cute. Seriously, you would have to meet a bloke in a pub environment to know if he had bantom syndrome & I've never met Ray so I wouldn't know.
