I think we just got a message from the AFL / Media in AFL360 tonight. A special segment from Mark McClure on...wait for it....Umpire respect and appreciation! No names,, no teams, just a very solemn speach about how we need to repect umpires and then a here, here and fairy claps from the other cast members. Absolutely no mention of the Swans game decisions.Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!Comment

Ha ha ha ha ha.
I got it.*
*It hasn't been a very good week, and it's only Wednesday!!Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

As for the umpires wanting respect ...
I think my parents tried to tell me at one stage or another that respect has to be earned.
Be respectful in your umpiring and we'll be respectful to you.
It's VERY rare that swans fans boo off the umpires. It's even rarer for the players to collectively lose their cool.
The common denominator is .....Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Are they really so precious that they cannot cop criticism and actually respond with common sense rather than ridiculous whitewashing?
It would actually work to build up their credibility if they were occasionally able to admit a blue or two. How refreshing it would be to hear "yep - fluffed that one, will try and be better next time". Or "yep - was roped in by that bit of staging - will be on the look out for it a bit more in future."
Trying to convince the public they are infallible and beyond critique is totally counter productive and is contributing pretty convincingly to a downward trend of respecting them.
The AFL's hear no evil speak no evil approach to them does the umpires no service whatsoeverComment

Respect is a 2 way street.
Ray doesn't respect the players and he certainly doesn't respect this club so why the hell should I respect him. Umpires as a whole due to constant AFL interference have a tough job and I have the utmost respect for Umpires because of that. However when an individual makes himself bigger than the game then that respect disappears.
Didn't see AFL360 but it looks like their gutless critique of Saturdays game means the AFL's censorship police are doing a great job. Very disappointing...And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Thanks Razor
Football milestones are important. Memories soon blur and fade yet the milestones like Pluggers record breaking goal,2005 GF, Nic Davis 4 goals are never forgotten.
I now have a new milestone thanks to Razor Ray by which to judge all future games. That was the worst Umpiring display I have ever seen. It was so bad I have not read any analysis as I don't need to.A genuine football milestone!Comment

From Fox Sports: The Adjudicator: AFL R18 | AFL Premiership - The Adjudicator | Fox Sports
Sydney Swans v Western Bulldogs, SCG, 2.10pm (EST), Saturday
The Adjudicator says: "Mr A got a panicked call from Ray Chamberlain on Sunday night. He had just been called all sorts of terrible names by the good folk in Sydney after umpiring in the Swans-Dockers clash at the SCG. He didn't care about the abuse, Razor is used to it, but the little man in yellow didn't think Brian Taylor gave him enough air time during the broadcast. Ray counted 21 references from BT, down on his weekly average of 28. Poor bloke. Don't worry, I told him that Mr A would chat strongly to Brian and things will be OK. They won't be for the losers of this game though. What are we thinking folks?"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. - Edmund BurkeComment

It is interesting because I was always of the belief that the teams going hardest at the ball were generally in favour if frees were to be given. Umps generally like to reward the teams going hardest at it. We are up in the lead for tackles, 1st possessions, clearances, 1%'s but get heavy penalised. Stats of course aren't everything but it is interesting. Is there a breakdown of the frees? That would be interesting. Wonder how many are against our backline? We always seem to concede our frees close to goal.
