Ethihad Stadium wouldn't have helped his cause then.

I think Mal might be just about done. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he retired at the end of the season.

Lol at people saying Mal is done. The guy has played some really good footy this year. He was unable to make an impact as sub last night, well boo hoo. He's not the first, and he won't be the last. He's clearly struggling for fitness or else he wouldn't be named sub in the first place.

Now, maybe he needs a week or two off to get fit. On the other hand, maybe he'll be better for the run. Depends on what exactly he's struggling with. But he's firmly in our best 22, and whatever the case, we need him for finals if we want to cause any trouble.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

He has a poor work rate, is unaccountable, and rarely influences the outcome of a game ... until "that" handball tonight of course ... good grief!

On the other hand Aj and Sam will be the backbone of this team for the next dozen years ... stars!
          Well said!

I don't see him in the best 22 when Lamb, Rohan and McVeigh are sitting on the sidelines. Mind you Parker is still a bit off the pace as well. The future is Lamb, Rohan, AJ, Sam and Hanners. Jetta is marking time unless he has an attitude/confidence transplant, starts thinking about his game and becomes a reliable link player. Parker just needs experience.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

Forgot Meredith. Strewth he would have been better than TDL.

              Jetta was fantastic.

AJ is so overrated on here.

TDL wasn't in everything but how can you expect him to be, brought in late hasn't been playing much footy and he was still okay. Why is he given no lee-way to adjust to afl pace?

AJ overrated? He kept Crameri goalless, and provided spark on the rebound. He is a 19 year old first year defender who can play on, and genuinely beat, quality forwards of any size, he's averaging 14 touches and 5 marks a game, and has cemented himself in a top 8 side with strong defensive stocks.

You are seriously underrating what Johnson has achieved this year.

Well he wasn't on Crameri for the whole game. And I didn't notice any dazzliling spark last night. Some good, honest play yes but nothing ground breaking. I don't think he isn't quality but he's playing the 6th defender role in a team that is very strong defensively anyway. And then people are critical of our forwards, Jesse and TDL.. It's not like we give them many opportunities to work with.

6th defender? Seriously? He's our first choice third tall in his first season!

I agree to say that he wasn't is like telling me you were watching another game whenever he is near the ball something happens and to say that it doesn't is a lie there was a couple of times that his pace really worried essendon and some of his pressures(not tackles) were superb and ended in turnovers, i don't know if his influence is seen better at the game and not on tv but i think he played his best game for the club last night by far. With a player of his type he will make mistakes and he does but when it clicks he will be an amazing player.

Reid and AJ are gonna be awesome in the next couple of years, i am gonna say that reid will be better then jack reiwoldt when he gets a couple more seasons in him(maybe not as good as franklin).

At half time warm up tadgh looked lethargic and uninterested in the game perhaps the game has gone past him.

Also smooch and birdy they are underrated players that don't get the recognition they deserve.

He didn't do anything dazzling! Therefore it must have been someone else who did the 4 or 5 bounce dash from near full back to the offensive forward line 50 metres. Pity he tried to pass instead of finishing off. Would have been goal of the year. I had better get off to The Optical Superstore to get my eyes tested this week before the Richmond game.

agree Nico............whether Lewis becomes the super sub in the future or continues with 80% game time........he is improving.............Goodes and Jetta combining like we saw a few times last night could seriously be a combo that we will be loving over the next 4 rounds and next season !

The opportunity cost has been a very simple equation.........we need speed in the team........we need carry and fast break options to compete in the top6........we had to invest in Lewis and Rohan and it takes time. SIMPLE

some players are so much better after 3 pre seasons also and just landing a new born baby this year with his partner has been a huge emotional change for him..........at only 22 yrs of age, away from his support group ie family etc..........You think about being 22 again, in a new town, first two yrs of Senior AFL footy and having a newborn baby.............he has taken on a massive amount of responsibility and given it a red hot go.........it would be simply a massive head space change and as we are starting to see he is aiming up more now............his body language, tackling and pressure i feel is significantly better. In some ways playing till 21yrs in a system like he was in perth ie just kick it to Lewis and he can kick 60 goals for the season thru shear speed one on one.........well it was 2 steps backwards to come 3 steps forwards I think hence next year I believe we will see the payoff of Lewis more then adjusting to a system like the Swans.........he may start to dominate and attract an opposing bloody good defender

Was his cousin any better or worse last night ?........by how much more did Leory influence the game?..........was Leory better in his second season of footy at the Bombers?.........Leroy is now 58 games and averaging a goal a game plus one year older and 4 to 5 pre seasons !!

I will make the bold prediction that Lewis can average a goal a game by 58 games also

I truly believe I am seeing a turn of the tide and all the work gone into persisting with Lewis is starting to show fruition...........very early days and could still go either way if a TDL or ROHAN stepped up and dominated but as mentioned the trade off was worse the last two seasons..........we didnt have another speedy player to play his role and allow us to at least have a spread and fast break footy to compliment our in and under footy

I consider Jetta has been learning his AFL craft, and is way better than he was last year. He made a few mistakes, but so did most of them at some stage, especially a few senior players.
