Some players are never stars but somehow fit into the seam of things & are essential to the whole. Maybe Meredith will turn out to be one of these players, who knows but give him a go at least. He needs at least a couple of weeks to prove himself. I believe that of all the young blokes give them at least 3 games to get the run of play at the AFL pace.

By the time they decided to kick to him (2 players later) he was put under the pump, but still managed to get the ball away, just.

I couldn't believe they ignored him when he was free for so long.

Absolutely spot on ScottH!!! And it happened to him more than once! He deserves a sustained run in the seniors.

Agreed - he's a keeper and he needs to play as he is one of our better kicks and can only improve us when he stays healthy - one of the few things I agree with Mathouse about is the longer you stay out of the top grade the harder it is to pickup the speed of the game when you come back in - that's why we will only improve with Meredith and hopefully Rohan getting a sustained run.

Eh. He just hasn't really impressed me, at reserves or senior level. He may cone good, but a few have gone past him.
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!

Pretty much sums him up for me also.

Hmmm...this was wolfy's 666th post. I am going to play it backwards for a subliminal message.

I like the look of him as a footballer but he just doesn't get enough of the ball. I agree with others that he, as well as other hopefuls deserve at least three games and three games with a decent amount of game time.

If you are in fear of getting dropped, it stifles your natural game flow as you are always looking to not stuff up.

Should he be a midfielder or is he maybe more suited being developed as a HBF?

As for those talking about trading him, well he's worth almost zero at the trade table.

I'd have been playing him across HB in the 2's as much as possible if I had my way. He's got a bit of skill and dash but just doesn't seem to get enough of it across HF or on the wing in the 1's. I'd be pounding defensive skills into him over the next 12 months in an attempt to turn him into a decent rebounder off HB. That's the option for Meredith to make it in the AFL over the next 1-2 years IMO.

So funny - am still laughing. Now that it is Tuesday a little of the pain from Sunday has gone - I am prepared to give them one more chance on Sunday but if they lose that's it I will not renew my membership until 2012

Or give him tagging assignments (thereby freeing up Bird or Jack). Teaches young players where to run to get to dangerous positions on the ground and gives them an idea of how hard the best midfielders work. He could start with either Dal Santo or Montagna on the weekend.

Probably not a bad option. He'll certainly get stronger with his tackling at the least.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

I liked Meredith a lot when he first came on the scene. Had a bad run with injuries though, and still looks like he needs to bulk up a bit. But I thought having been out for so long, he went OK last weekend; better than plenty of others, that's for sure. I hope he finds a role.
