I've read this thread from start to finish and had a good laugh along the way.

Cheer Squad - no one can deny your total devotion and loyalty to the Swans, and its admirable - BUT - you also have to understand that in this life people are free to make choices. There are those of us who really honestly and passionately want to see AFL grow in NSW so therefore we want to support GWS to get a membership base, to support the growth of the game - it doesnt diminish our love for the Swans. I think I'm safe in saying that 99% of swans supporters who have joined up, have done so, so as they have the opportunity of watching senior footy in this city every weekend, and who can blame them for that?? The same goes for expats from other states who just love footy, this is an outlet for them as well.

Am I to not go to watch my great nephew play Auskick because he plays for the Miranda Bombers, as he's not wearing a swans jumper? should I not buy raffle tickets from them for fund raising because my money isnt going to the Swans? For all I know he may become a great player and get recruited by GWS - am I to shun him because of that and My allegience to the Swans? not a chance.

As for you saying to Al that he can pretty much have his membership to the Swans, just so long as he only attends GWS games every now and then and pay at the gate - I mean honestly, I couldnt believe what I was reading.

GWS is here, and I hope it is a success wihch means that AFL footy is growing - if you dont want that then so be it, but its a very blinkered view of things.

As Bas said, the Swans will discard any player they please, without hesitation and despite what we members think. So if a Swans player goes to GWS because the Swans have said Sonara then good luck too them. Same goes if a Swans wants out of the club, for no other reason than to look at his future financially, then again so be it. Last I heard it was still a free country.

and another thing about the NRL V AFL stink is that I love nothing more than seeing how upset some of the twat journalists from News ltd get (Ritchie, Rothfield & Wilson to name a few). they get on their soap box and have a go - its hilarious.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

Roy Masters in the SMH is even funnier when he gets worked up about the AFL v NRL in Sydney. His columns really should be in the entertainment section.

It's going to be terrific to see 11 or so extra games in Sydney from next year.
Remember that the MCG has thousands of neutral supporters every weekend..some people simply enjoy watching football at the top level.
If, by obtaining a GWS membership, I can get in a bit more cheaply, I'll be first in line.
And also if my money helps support Aussie rules in Sydney, they are very welcome to it.
And if anyone suggests that my interest in, or loyalty to the Swans is affected by that in any way, they are looking thru a telescope from the wromng end!!

I hope GWS get zero members. That would be nice.

too late - they have already gone over the 10,000 mark which is better than anyone expected.

$50 foundation members that is though yeah? Their challenge is comes when people have to pay up a couple of hundred dollars I guess.

Given that 10,000 were willing to pay $50 to see zero games, I'd be surprised if a healthy chunk weren't willing to pay a couple of hundred to see 11 games.

Yeah maybe, but there is a romance about being a foundation member. Be interesting to see the progress once foundation members have to start making a decision and duel Swans/Giants members have to pay two memberships etc. (Although with only 8 games in Sydney, should be a reasonable cost I'd think)

Not that it really matters, they aren't going to be struggling for money early on. Membership year 3 onwards the key I'd think.

I'll be renewing with a 3-game Canberra GWS membership in addition to my 3-game Swans membership. For a Canberra-based footy fan it's really a no-brainer, especially if the membership is less than, say, $60 (that's less than my Roller Derby season ticket!).

3 games a year for the next decade sounds pretty good to me.

Thought the Roller Derby died in the 70s!

                              Gee, memories.

I was a regular at the Hordern Pavillion back in the early 70's to watch the T-Birds do battle with the Devils, Bombers et al.

Ralphy Valladares would be a goody one year, than go off the tracks and skate for the baddies the next, before seeing the error of his ways and coming back to the goodies again...lol

Adeline Hocker was an absolute legend and head and shoulders above all the female skaters. Of course I had the obligatory schoolboy crush on 'Addie'....
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09

The AFL has just confirmed that Richmond-Carlton (sigh again) will open the 2012 season so it appears that this fixture isn't happening, at least not as the standalone season opener.
