    Grand Finail - Meatloaf

    How embarrassing?????

The Meat's loaf was well and truly done afer what seems a few hours in the Green Room.

Out of tune, out of sync. Sad to see actually.

Doesn't even compare to Lionel Ritchie from last year. They could have saved lots of money and dressed up Richard Champion to do some songs from Bat out of Hell.

Apparently there was lots of drama about him performing. I thought it was the rain but maybe they couldn't prize him off a bar stool.

The Ground Announcer said at the end "everyone put your hands together for Meatloaf, brought to you by Carlton Draught".

I'd say up to the ear lobes in it.

Can we make this the match thread?

If the Pies win, will Jolly tie with Black for most medalled player?

I think the Pies will get up.

He was never a great live singer in his prime, and his voice has been shot for years. Very odd choice to bring him out.

Its been a great grand final to half time.

I am surprised that they subbed Podsy so quickly.

The pies came back with a real vengeance there in the 2nd qtr and the Cats looked shell shocked. However, somehow they clawed their way back in the game.

I have to admint the the Tomahawk is looking very muck like our Jesse. Looks like Tarzan playing like Jane.

Should be a krakour second half.

I'm hoping Cats win but if the pies get up it will be funny that they retire a winning premiership coach and replace him with a favourite son. The two other favourite sons haven't faired that well but pies are much better team than what the other two had inherited.

At least Channel Ten didn't get Johnny Young to sing.

I'm thinking of Hawkins as a role model for Jesse. If Jdub ever plays a quarter like Hawkins just did he'll be a Swan for life.

                On Hawkins, absolutely.
On Meat Loaf, a Ronny Barker clone, looked like a peevish pensioner. Sounded like one too.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Meatloaf was always rubbish. They never get it right. Getting mediocre performers well past their prime who used to be popular with bogans has surely failed as a strategy. Sure we need crowd-pleasers, but the last few years have been frankly embarrassing.

Lionel Ritchie wasn't too bad last year. The crowd enjoyed it that much that he could have sung all night long. He did.

Vanessa Amorosi looked like a toilet roll doll and sounded like she was going to lay an egg there in the last stages of the National Anthem.

Thank God Channel 10 no longer broadcasts as next year we would have copped the Young Talent Team.

I was there today (sensational seats undercover haha), but we were close to Meatloaf and it was horrific. Wow, there was something wrong with the sound or something, just all was wrong.

As for Amorosi, I thought her National Anthem was great until the Collingwood Cheer squad decided to chant before she had finished!

As I said to Wardy, bring back Col Joy, and The Deltones!! Meatloaf should be ashamed of himself. That was awful.

                        Great game though

The GF entertainment has improved over the years, but the AFL doesn't get showmanship like the NRL does. Culturalyl the league is still stuck in the Melbourne suburbs. Not that that's a bad thing. Crap, clapped-out performers are an essential element to a successful GF.

The other thing that knocks me out are the reverential tones of Craig Willis. He always sounds like he's announcing the start of World War III, or at least the Nobel Prize for the greatest person who ever lived, rather than formalities at a footy match.

I'm a massive Meatloaf fan but for some reason his voice lacked power yesterday. However the band sounded great and the chick was was pretty good so 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

The reason was too much alcohol. Pity he couldn't hold off until he finished performing. Really no excuse to go on stage that pissed.

He has done it before and I think it was the NRL Footy Show when he turned up drunk to the eyeballs.

Suzi Q would have had the whole place rocking.
