Really? I think they've made enough mistakes for us to have some real doubts about us recruiting Setanta. I'm not saying they haven't made some great decisions, but just enough shockers for us to be worried.

Normally I am one of those R&W regulars screaming "no". Not this time. I think the club should go for him. Big forward, bad boy reptution (but not THAT bad), apparently not a cripple, and a reasonable 63.2% goal:behide ratio. In the hope that Kennelly stays around (does anyone know?) and with Walsh coming on board I think the Sydney Football club have more to gain and less to lose.

We haven't imported too many shockers in the Roos-Longmire era. Chambers is one, and maybe Luke Brennan.

While we're getting historical, is it my imagination or do we tend to do a lot of our trades with a handful of clubs, like Hawks, Collingwood, Geelong? Can't remember us importing anyone from Port or Freo.

EDIT: That said we really don't need another mediocre tall.

It's taken me bloody YEARS to get to spell Tadgh properly, and I'm not even sure it's right yet!

Please dont saddle us with a weird thing on top of a capital O, an inappropriately placed small h preceding a capital A in the same word, and yet another weird thingummy on top of the final i .

          Oh, and he can't play!

out of curiosity what are the so called shocker?
because for mine when it comes to bringing in experience players I would rate our recruitment staff 9/10 over the last 10 years. But if your refering to our strike rate when it comes to first round draft picks you might have a point, but that said the draft is always a bit of a lottery and always has an element of hit and miss.

And Brennan was only a rookie pick up so I wouldnt call him a shocker either

Chambers, Spriggs, Brennan (Yes I include him, he was a waste no matter how you look at it), Everitt (Let's face it he's a list clogger).

As I said, our recycling of players has been admirable but we've made some poor judgements and this would be another.

We have had some shockers but mostly are spectacular successes.

Terry Wallace did some numbers and said based on his opinions of players traded, 42% of trades work over the AFL and the Sydney Swans success rate is 72%. In terms of performance against industry benchmark, it's pretty amazing.

FWIW, no to O'Hailpin but if the Swans have a grand plan for him, I'll support it. Maybe the Swans see "Irish Corner" on the Swans website as a commerical advantage and will recruit to keep it going??!

At least Jesse wouldn't be the most frustrating player in the team anymore...
Hey Jewels, I don't think we need to do a poll to work out the next RWO whipping boy now that Bevan is gone.

Well, they might not recruit him yet and leave the RWO whipping boy honour to Andrejs.

The figure he quoted is in fact 82%.

On radio? He quoted 72% on Twitter, but that could have been an estimate. Either way, remarkable.

Ill give you Chambers and Spriggs as shockers, but given Brennan was picked up in the 2007 rookie draft as selection 44 - so he was no bust he was just a guy we picked up in the rookie draft and like the majority of most players picked up as a rookie in most teams he didnt make it so no big deal at all. As for Everitt he played 11 games for us and lets not forget he was the difference in our round 3 match against west coast - so while the jury might still be out on him he is far from being a list clogger.

Setanta - do not come to Sydney . We can do without a forward who manages less than a goal a game.
