Lane is correct, the real (and only) story here is about the snow job by the AFL. Nobody cares about how Kieren got picked up, as all the clubs were given a chance to protest about it at the time. What Lane is bringing up is the usual 'investigation' the AFL carries out into itself and then clears itself and then tells everyone how honest and transparent they are every time there is a hint of a bad smell. One day the Emporers new clothes will come back to haunt Demetriou, however I doubt it will be done by the very shy Melbourne AFL media.
Funny how the AFL questioned Balym but never asked Masters about the much more damaging issue of Garry Jack saying 'they smothered it by saying it was lost in the mail' and also that he emailed Demetriou about the situation. I'm sure that email has been deleted by now and the 'Investigation' will be looking forward to the xmas break and will never be seen again...

How would that go, exactly? It'd be Masters' word against G. Jack's. In any case how do you know they didn't?

Thats exactly the point, these things are all known and obvious, so why not just admit it instead of the never ending denials, justifications and snow jobs. Noboby cares 6 years on if Kieren was picked up to the letter of the law on not, its the AFL internal investigations and then pronouncements of innocence that anoy me. I gues the point has been made numerous times in this thread, even if something wrong did happen, every other club in the AFL had the opportunity to draft KJ in that draft but they didn't. BUt then we can't let facts get in the way of a good rant.

The only way this story would have legs is if the Swans had done something to gain an unfair advantage. The facts prove that they didn't as I have reiterated above.

I was with you right up until here......McAvaney is far worse IMO. But Lane is pretty bad.

Whether it is dodgy or not, all other clubs had an opportunity to draft him before the Swans took him in the last round of the draw, so it is hardly unfair to them. I don't know what Lanes beef is, but I wish he had half the brains that his daughter does. Sam Lane is very articulate and clever when it comes to everything football.
