The channel might be HD, but that doesn't mean all the content on it is in HD.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I'm not disagreeing with that, but the agreement between 7 and the AFL was for 4 games on fta TV. That is exactly what we got for round 1.

What got me was the spruiking of more games all through the Sunday Footy programme (can't remember the name) on seven, got all excited, and then found they had indulged in false advertising. They lied to me. there were no games in Sydney at all.

It will be fun to see if Bwyan can work out who is playing this week; and whether or not the rest of the commentary team up in the box can get it right too.

It is a great seeing these extra games but depressing at the same time. I can see how far we are behind in some areas like field kicking.. The Hawks can pinpoint a player 60m away.. Not the bomb and hope crap that we come up with.

The Hawks are terrifyingly skilled and will win the flag if their injury luck holds.

It is depressing, yes, but I think a pure man-to-man defensive strategy might be the best approach and we'd be one of the better teams at pulling that off.

Even more live footy on 7Mate in Sydney in round 2 - five live games according to my EPG.

All that pampering to a very small audience in Sydney.

In Melbourne all we get shown are collingwood/essendon/carlton games..all weekend. Great!

Simple economics. There's more demand for AFL in Melbourne, so they'll try and generate as much revenue as possible through games merch and PayTV. As they try to grow demand for AFL in Sydney (with and end goal of eventually getting more subscribers to PayTV), they'll try and hook you with freebies.

Ha, I said the same thing the other night ... 'watching the Hawks and Freo stomp last year's Grand Finalists gives me a bad feeling about quite a few of our coming matches this year ..."

Funny how one round has destroyed a lot of the optimism that was on here during the off season. Panic merchants the lot of ya.

(although Freo were pretty good and they have Sandilands and Fyfe and we didn't play well against GWS.... Oh dammit)

Off season Optimism born from the hope that we would improve in our two worst areas, kicking efficiency and forward structure. From what we have seen so in round 1, it doesn't look like we have. Our recruits that have played so far, Morton and Walsh, have been largely dissapointing and at times our Ability to hit a target still seems non existent. Then again, we looked okay against St kilda, North ( from what I read) and even the bombers to an extent so maybe we are panicking too soon. We still have two recruits that may improve us efficiency wise in Armstrong and Mitchell when they get on the park , and our forward line contains one of the brightest ( albeit wayward in front of goal) young stars in the game in Reid. A lot of teams looked good in round 1, true , but close games between evenly matched teams produce cracking performances. If we get smashed by Freo, then we can all start jumping out windows, but until then maybe we should relax, just a little bit.

My opinion is that in Sydney its been a small audience b ecause we haven't HAD any AFL to watch FTA. Looking forward to something more available. If its on, I am probably going to watch.

If the games are like some of the rd 1 clashes, then people will soon get into it and get hooked on watching AFL. The Geelong Freo game was an earlier contender for match of the season, and Hawthorn Colliwobbles wasn't half bad either.

Can someone give me the protocol here? OK, so there's a game with say Carlton/Collingwood. I don't like either of them. But if Carlton was thrashing Collingwood I would probably be making appropriate noises (scream, kill em, strangle the buggers you know, laydie loik stuff). Am I being disloyal to my reds? Or am I just trying to restore order to the afl world.
