The other serious issue about this terrible mistake is the fact that the crowd did not have a clue what was going on. Even the TV coverage took over half an hour to know the exactudes. Disgraceful.

It tells me that the interchange stewards don't know the rules which is just extraordinary. My commonsense and logic tells me that when a sub is activated 2 people should ensure all is correct before it is activated. Should only add another 10 seconds before the player can go on.

Another thought; maybe our person needs a decent clip around the ears for getting it wrong.

Absolutely, but that doesn't excuse a gifted goal instead of a fine on the part of the AFL. If you're going to be the one making the judgements and imposing the penalties, you should know the rules backwards, forwards and out the freakin' wazoo.

Second time that the afl has had to apologise to sydney it really isn't good enough, you would think that the interchange steward would talk through his radio to the back up umpire before waving for a free kick. Maybe he just wanted to get his mug on the tv.

But on a serious note if that happened to a melbourne club @@@@ would be going down in the media, but there is nothing on the herald sun website and only a very small apology to sydney on the afl website.

Just watched (most of) the game on afl.com.

LRT was sensational. His tackle on McPhee was game turning as was Mattner's a few years back. Tireless in the Ruck and in defence.
Kennedy, enough has been said about him I think.
Jetta still has a long way to go, but by far his best game yet.
Malceski also had his best game for a long time.
Johnson still amazes me, such poise beyond his experience.
Hope Reid's shoulder is OK. Not sure if it was a coincidence but we fell apart after he took the knock to the shoulder.
Seaby also had a decent game against the biggest man in the league.

Reg is making some very costly turnovers. Used to be Ted's domain, but he has raised the bar and left Reg behind.
How many times does Bird get run down from behind. Lack of awareness, or does he rely on his team mates too much??
Hanners and ROK looked a bit rusty, but will hopefully be better for the run.

2 wins and Goodes has barely got out of second gear.

6 goals in 8 minutes, every single one following a Swans blunder of some kind.

                    1) Bird doesn't pick up easy bouncing ball at HF stoppage....goal
                    2) Mattner drops incredibly easy mark at CHB...goal
                    3) Grundy dives OVER innocuous ball coming in to point post...goal
                    4) Interchange breach....goal
                    5) Richards lets the ball bounce off his chest, concentrating on trying to bump Pavlich...goal
                    6) McGlynn centres ball to opposition in corridor...goal

During the same period we gave up 2 goals

                    1) McGlynn misses eay goal...first fumbles handball, then recovers and doesn't kick to man on his own in the square
                    2) Roberts-Thomson misses goal 98 forwards in the league would have kicked...doesn't even make contact with ball as tackle comes 5 metres out in front.

Yes that's correct. There were also a few other Freo goals throughout the game that came about as a result of our errors. There were also a number of Swans goals throughout the game that came about as a result of Freo errors.

Our fade outs are scary, scary stuff.....we led game by 45 points and inside 50s 40-28.....thereafter we lost inside 50s 35-13!!!!!!!! (yes that's 35-13) but still managed to score 4 goals for a very lucky win. 13 Inside 50s in one and three quarters of footy. Absolutely dreadful.

Versus North we led by 45 and conceded the last 4 goals.
Versus GWS we led by more than 60 and then lost the rest of the game...this week's GWS result shows how terrible our effort was really.

Describing 2 wins from 2 starts, one against a nothing team and one against quite a good team, as 'absolutely dreadful' and 'terrible' is overly critical IMHO - I will take 2 wins and I will be appreciative of the good work that got us the 4 points on each occasion.

                            My two cents worth

                            1. I think Jetta will power on from here. My theory is that the boots were / are an overcompensation for lack of confidence. When he burned off the Freo players, the look on his face was sublime. Yes he can do this. Hopefully he starts to hang on to the ball a bit longer, draw the man, create overlap and start to kick to place consistently. He will become a weapon.
                            2. Gary Rohan is still finding his feet - testing his limits - hence cameos here and there. Soon he is going to put it all together in one game and it will be a site to behold, but he's got a few years before he starts to do that consistently.
                            3. Sam Reid's body is going to be a mess by the time he is finished in 10 years. Hope he is ok. Looks like he was trying to play on more and kick on instinct. Mostly worked.
                            4. Thought Ben McGlynn was very average. Without having checked the stats, poor disposal abounded.
                            5. Letting the other team in is a worry. It like they are trying to play tempo footy, but that went out in 2006. These days, there is only one speed to play at or you get over-run. Four quarters of effort needed
                            6. LRT is fulfilling his role beautifully.
                            7. I rate Reg highly, but agree his disposal is bad. He needs to work on it.
                            8. AJ is great. He's 194cms? But he walks runs in a sort of stoop. Like a spring coiled up, so he doesn't look anywhere need his actual height. Deceptive - can play tall or small and has a razor sharp footy brain coupled with great physical attributes. 5 year deal?
                            9. Parker also should be on a 5 year deal and ad Kennedy and Smith and Bird.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

McGlynn for all his courage misses many easy set shots and every week inexplicably picks out an opposition player. He is on a par with Gilbert from St Kilda in picking out a player with a different coloured jumper.

This I think, is most correct. We don't want to be playing at our full potential yet, North, Adelaide, St KKilda HAwthorne etc, seem to be playing their best footy now, you don't win a flag in the first 2 rounds, so I'll take the 2/2 and be very happy about it. Smart coaching IMO to have the boys win without having to rev them right up. We will get better as the year goes on, Hanners still underdone, ROK obviously needs game time, same with Shaw. Goodes hasn't set the world on fire yet, nor has Jude. Plenty of improvement left in us and we still managed the 2 wins, good work Horse
