Why are they recycled players? To suggest so is an insult to these players and in a way insinuating that the swans is the last choice for any player and they only come to us as a last option.

Is G Ablett a recycled player at GCS?

Is S Burgouyne a recycled player at dawkthorn?

Is C Judd a recycled player at Carltank?

So sick of the A(V}FL media and their lack of overall respect for the swans. They respect us but its so god dam full of cliches!

Players want to come to the swans and they are not recoiled. Maybe they pal bad at their previous club because their previous club did not afford them the respect they deserved!

      Sheesh!

What a ridiculous argument, Ablett was still wanted by his club as was Burgoyne and Judd.

The term was being used yesterday as a real positive in the way the Swans are able to see the potential in players discarded by their original clubs.

The term recycling refers to something (in this case someone), that is no longer wanted and is put to good use by someone else.

It's either Craig Bolton or David Spriggs....

Bolton for mine with Ted closing the gap in 2nd. Too soon to call on McGlynn or Kennedy

What about recycled posters, as in people previously banned on RWO but find there way back under another guise.

                    Any opinion on that phenomena?

Was Stuey discarded??? Not my recollection and by the reaction of Richmond fans for the next 10 seasons every time he touched the ball, I'd suspect they also are of the opinion that Stuey walked...

The fact that we have bandied about so many names here suggests that we seem to be able to pick players on the outer at their original club, identify a role for them to play with us, and give them that opportunity, and see them respond. I don't think any other club could claim the sustained success of this approach that we have had.

                        I'm on the Chandwagon!!!

I don't like the term recycled player either - unless it is referring to players that had been delisted from their previous clubs. Of the names thrown up in this thread I wouldn't think too many were, but most were instead traded from one club to another. This happens in all sports yet I think the AFL is the only one who refers to players that were traded as 'recycled'. I would think someone like GWS' Giles is an example of a 'recycled' player as he was delisted by Port and then picked up by GWS later on.

I don't who we have referred to in this thread about people who were cast off and subsequently recycled by us. There are a few ex-Swans that were delisted an picked up by other teams currently - Sam Rowe and Peter Faulks come to mind.

I just think that the whole 'recycled' term is a bit silly for a modern day sport where players can move from club to club - it will probably happen more when free agency comes in too....

                            Precisely!

Yes, this is the way I see it too. I know the term recycled player sounds like it is being used euphemistically, but I agree, here it is being used in a positive light, in that we saw potential in them that the other clubs didn't see.

Well said, but again, see dawson's post above, the point is that the future performance of an AFL player is inherently uncertain. Agree that we have done very well in reducing that uncertainty, but it can never be eliminated entirely. I am fascinated to see how Morton goes for us.
