Another point, Sam Mitchell, hardly sighted. Kudos Parker and jack at times

Great idea, hope it happens. I have admired the emphasis on Goodes' leadership and standing in the indigenous community in the various articles and comments leading up to today. It would be appropriate to honour that next Sat. night.Comment

Sorry for crashing in on this thread (just finished watching the game that I'd taped and so I haven't read most of it), but I'm wondering people's opinions:
When was the Swans' last more meritorious minor round victory than this one?
The only thing that leaps to mind for me is our round 11, 2004 victory vs St Kilda at the SCG where the Saints came in 10-0, most of them thumpings, and were pretty much unbackable favourites to beat us. But you can even make a credible case for this being better than a game like that where we basically led all day, in that today had the added grit of us being deep, deep in a hole during the 2nd quarter. And again (improbably given the final scoreline), being behind and on the wrong side of momentum, with a dangerously low reserve of players on the bench, during the last quarter.
As I think others have noted in other threads, most of the Swans' miraculous comebacks from dead & buried positions during the Roos era, resulted in us falling just a few points short at the end (e.g. round 1, 2007 vs West Coast @ Homebush).
It may be that in my excitement I've overlooked some more seminal H&A achievement over the last decade or two. But geez, I struggle to think of it right now. That was something pretty special.Comment

We've had some good ones e.g. Kardinia Park last year, over the Hawks the day Jets got his first a couple of years ago or the time Hall kicked the winner after the siren (the first time we'd been in front all day).
But nup! Today was the best in my current addled state of memory.Comment

I freely confess to glowering at the tv from deep within the recesses of a thick blanket at half-time, growling "oh great, and now we're going into our traditional third quarter nap ...".
But man, that second half rather rejuvenated me - I can't add anything more to what's been said.
And words I never thought I'd hear from a commentator (or anyone): "the Swans really won the game in that third quarter."
A sputtering start, but an awesome performance all around once we got the spark back. Even channel 7 commentators had to pour praise on the Swans (imagine!) by the end. And what a perfect game for Goodes to be sublime as ever! Now if we can only get frontline condor Reid over his goalkicking yips ...Comment

While watching the first quarter, I really had it in for Seaby. It seemed like he kept flicking it to Hawthorn hands. From what was said afterwards, it appeared that we simply didn't have enough men on the ball, which appeared to make things more difficult for Seaby. He also appeared to be a bit slow, while I have in my mind that Mumford seems to be much more agile. However by the second half I was eating my words and he seemed to really be much more engaged. I was also giving LRT a hard time and generally do, but he was actually quite impressive. In the first half, AJ seemed to be making uncharacteristic errors, and Roughead seemed to be getting the better of the defenders. I too like many others was really disappointed at half-time, but was shocked when we started to come back. Teddy started to get the better of his opponents, as did Mattner and Grundy. Andrejs had a crappy first half but was much, much better in the second. Parker was using every single part of his body to fight for the ball, even going for the ball with his back to it, and using his arms desperately. JPK seemed to just materialise at the right place at the right time to take marks and kick goals. Jetta, although he didn't kick 3 goals today, was still very impressive with his pressure and chase. Nick Smith came on with real effect and helped turn the game for us. Bird pulled us out a few holes. Great contributions from O'Keefe in the first half, and then from Bolton from the second. And obviously Goodes had a blinder in the second half. McVeigh was awesome and so was Rhyce Shaw in containing Rioli. Reid was pretty quiet and I agree with other posters here that he may be playing with an injury. He was so impressive in the first half of the Freo game, I don't know what's going on there.
For us to be missing Mumford and Rohan and a slew of other players to come back, this is very exciting. I think the major difference from last season is that a lot of mid-tier players have lifted their game, and we aren't relying on our stars to carry the load. That second half had a good even contribution from all players, and that we really should be in the mix for top 4 this season.Comment

Sam Mitchell
It's hard to tell anything watching on the tele so I couldn't work out who had Sam Mitchell yesterday. I thought he wasn't playing. Any ideas people? And any update on LRT. I thought he was close to BOG before he went off. He one tough brave bugger. So much to like about yesterday. I have man crush on Teddy, Luke Parker continues to astound me. I wonder what what stage someone is going to tag him. Rhys Shaw has done astonishing job for past two weeks as a pure tagger. Boomer then Cyril. Lot to love about this team. Hard at ball and skillful when they run.Comment

That is somewhat negated given that our mids are kicking goals. Bird 2, Kennedy 3, Hanners 1, McVeigh 1, Bolton 2, Jack1. Looks like a strategy to overcome the lack of big forwards.Comment

Remembering that all the mids take a rotation through teh forward line every so often, and that our mids play back and forward, so I guess you could call it strategy, and taking advantage of the pack around Reid is purely common senseYou can't argue with a sick mind - Joe WalshComment
