nah. bottom age is a birthday in the first quarter of the year: jan, feb and march
"To be eligible, players must be 18 on or before April 30 the year following a National Draft."
so gossipcom was right when they said parker is the opposite, another example would be chris judd who earned his brownlow in 04 as a 20 year old, but was awarded it after having turned 21.Comment

That is about 3 years out of date. They changed the draft age limit so that you now have to turn 18 by 31 December of the year in which you are drafted. The year we drafted Hanners, Heath and LJ, who all turned 18 between 1 January and 30 April the year after they were drafted, was the final year of the old rules. Hence when we drafted Reid, he was the ultimate "bottom ager", turning 18 at the end of December, just a few days before the cut-off date.nah. bottom age is a birthday in the first quarter of the year: jan, feb and march

So someone who turns 18 on 1 May is top age and someone who turns 18 on 29 April the next year is bottom age. They are terms used to explain the maturity of junior footballers and is important when assessing players and their development. In my 10 years experience with junior footy I learned that there is a big gap between clearly top and bottom age players in maturity and ability except for the very best. A lot of comps have a 1 January cut off to keep things simple and I have in my memory bank that at some stage that was the cut off with the AFL a while ago.nah. bottom age is a birthday in the first quarter of the year: jan, feb and march

A couple of sides at the club I was involved with were always middle of the road and finished just outside the 4 for 2 seasons, and always closed the gap somewhat between the them and the top teams by seasons end. When they went to second division for a season they won the flag.Comment

I think Liz they did this to bring it into line with all comps. I recall there was confusion with kids that had gone through their junior footy using 1 January as the date then when it came to draft time some were eligible and some were not. That makes Parker a bottom age player with an October birthday. I am sure clubs look at dates of birth as part of the total picture of a draftee. That is about 3 years out of date.
