It seems the apple may not fall far from the tree. Here is a profile of Josh Dunkley, draft prospect: 2015 Draft Profile: Josh Dunkley ? Bound for Glory News.

A couple of choice excerpts, after discussing his strengths including rating his inside work, tackling and marking:

    * "whats stopping Dunkley from being in that top five conversation is his clear inability to kick. Every facet of his footwork is below the standard he needs to be at. His ball drop is a bit too high, particularly in his set shot routine, which can throw him off a bit. As a result, the mechanics of his kicking action are all out of whack. In tight, he seems comfortable and makes the right decisions. But when he is in space and tries to get involved in kicking chains, he doesn?t back his kicking, and either puts up a long floater or tries to chip it. He lacks penetration on his kicking. When he has time, he probably over thinks it and makes the wrong decisions by foot.

He?s got a good feel for the flow of the game, which eases him up a little bit when kicking in general play, but he can still shank it at times. As a result, he?ll usually run at about 50% efficiency by foot, which is really poor."

    * "Dunkley lacks speed and agility in all forms. The best thing going for him is his fend off, but he doesn?t have that Dustin Martin ability to stay composed and execute the kick after the fend off. Dunkley will need to follow in Angus Brayshaw?s footsteps and learn some evasive manoeuvres so he isn?t always exposed."

They also point out he needs to build a tank.

So, according to them at least (and I haven't seen him at all), he's got his pros and cons. The good news is that they reckon the cons can be fixed.

On the other hand, precision kicking and speed seem to be some of the things we need most and what Josh has got is already our strong suit: contested possessions and tackling.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

That's an old story, so I wouldn't put too much credence in it at this stage. There's been plenty of water under the bridge, Roos(who his beef was with) is long gone.

The issue for me is his lack of speed and poor kicking....We need those attributes like a hole in the head.

His younger brother Kyle is supposed to be a better prospect although i have never seen him play. Might be worth picking up Josh if it means we get both.

Kyle Dunkley was not selected in the 52 player Squad for Vic Country. Unless injured a long way from the top.

He's only turned 15 a couple of months ago I think. He'd be young to make a rep U16 squad this year.

                Agreed.

Save our pennies and spend em elswhere. Get Mills in, and look for different talent.

Methinks Dunks Jnr may not be a certainty to arrive here, feel he may have blown out to a late second rounder.

We'll have him pretty well reference checked though so we'll have a godo idea of what he is worth

Yeah Tiges could be heavily into him.

Why don't we look at TOM PAPLEY - grandson of former South Melbourne star Max Papley. 33 goals in 15 games in the under 18's. (Surely there's a Grand father-Grandson rule for stars who have played more than 50 games!)

If he has any of his Grand Dads genius he is just what we need.

They have the wrong ND picks, 12 is too early and 32 too late. Looking like Dunks will land around the early 20s according to most draft boards.

It is my understanding that should he land around the early second round pick, it would be beneficial to the Swans, points wise, should he nominate and be accepted, especially if Mills is taken early.

Dunkley is more likely to be picked up if Mills goes as late as possible, leaving us more points in the bank.
