It may not be the only reason for his decision, from my memory that was a handful of players who really had issues with the then coach Rodney Eade. I know W schwass was one and I have a feelings Dunks was another. Maybe he left the swans in a stuff you relationship manner and he has past these onto his son? Maybe?

I hope Mills drops down the order a little more than that. If Dunks Jr. doesn't end up in the Red and White I'd be a little mixed on that. Obviously you have to respect both his and the Swans' decision in the process, but I was a fan of the way his dad went about it. I guess it's how Hawthorn fans felt when Kennedy came here.

Though maybe it was Shelley? Wasn't there once a feud between the Kirk's and the Shelley's?

Good results for Weitering and Schache considering they're not mids. Good to see Hopper in front of Mills too.

As romantic as it would be to get Dunkley if he's "set to reject" us then he can GAGF.

Mills stats are as a bottom-age player though...you'd have to assume that with natural progression this season he would have leap-frogged Hopper. Recruiters will know that as well...especially considering his injuries this year were very minor ones. Had a fair bit of 'cotton wool' about it

at this point Hopper certainly looks like he has the AFL build for now and the future where as Mills could struggle to put on the weight for a true inside mid and he isn't fast enough to be a true outside mid

Hopper stats and video footage does appear a safer bet for no 1

to be honest there must be a few coaches who would wonder whether Mills is definitely a no1 type pick

Except that Dunkley was touted as a top 10 or so pick this time last year, based on his performances as an under-aged player. The fact he was unable to back these up in 2015 has pushed him well down the draft order, despite everyone knowing he was overcoming a fairly serious injury. If Mills had played a couple more games and been ordinary in them, would he be touted as a top 3 pick now?

Most judges have consistently had Hopper ahead of Mills for the last couple of years so if Mills does go first it'll be a huge win for GWS.

I can see the Dees only wanting to select one academy kid (that they know will be matched) and I get a feeling they won't wish to penalise GWS given the good trading relations they have. Then again GWS should be able to comfortably afford their picks (they have two additional first rounders next year FFS) so maybe the Dees will select Hopper at #3 to prove there were no deals.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out

Makes a big difference for every position Mills slips. This is particularly important if Dunkley isn't coming as we then need our remaining picks to be as high as possible.

For this same reason we also want GWS and Brisbane academy players to be taken as high as possible so they burn more picks thereby dragging our remaining picks higher.

Clubs really should be looking at hurting GWS as they are a juggernaught about to roll, they shouldn't be thought of as less dangerous to other clubs than we are. Hopeful that Hopper at least goes before Mills.

Regardless of where Mills goes we have effectively lost picks 33,36 and 37 but you are right that if Hopper was to go earlier than Mills and say that Mills went at 5 then our pick 44 will remain in play and after adjustments it could we go as high as 39.

If Mills goes at 3 before Hopper then we are left with an upgraded 54 which will become about pick 46.

So, yes it would be better for us for Mills to go later but the actual tangible benefit if we only draft two players plus an academy kid is not that great.

I genuinely hope clubs aren't looking at hurting anyone in this process. There will be a bit of common-sense (for example, even if Melbourne felt Mills, Hopper and Kennedy were rated 3,4 and 5 I don't think they'd pick all three in the name of inter-club relations) but overall I'd just like clubs to bid in good faith with a fair value of what they are bidding.

It really only affects the top 10 picks though (Brisbane should be largely free to select all their players) and a couple of passes on academy kids will sort any games out

In 1997 another son of a questionable kicking Swans great chose not to follow his sire's red & white footprints.
2 games & 2 kicks for the Bulldogs later & David Round's career was a footnote in the history of AFL footballers. Not too many Swans fans have lamented missing out on Roundy Jr

Clubs should be careful in picking a player who is predestined to a club in another state ie: Mills & Swans
History dictates that often the player gravitates to their originally desired club.
It would be a risk to select a Mills at pick 1 or 2 and the Swans not match it, and the club ends up with a player who perhaps doesn't want to be there.
Having said that, I think the Swans will select Mills at any cost...
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.
