Having said that, I think the Swans will select Mills at any cost...
I think we will but I'm not sure that Carlton will test our resolve.

The go home factor is another in built reason why interstate clubs need to be quite careful in making realistic but not vexatious bids on academy kids.

Having said that, I don't think the idea of living in Melbourne and living like a rock star is such a turn off for most kids

If Mills had played a couple more games and been ordinary in them, would he be touted as a top 3 pick now?
Mills underage form was far more impressive than Dunkley's...from memory I don't think Dunkley was all-Aus? But it is a valid point

"The Swans could also have access to father-son Josh Dunkley who might still nominate the club before Friday?s deadline.

Despite speculation Dunkley would instead enter the draft to increase his chances of remaining in Victoria, it?s understood he is warming to a move to the harbour city.

Mills has been involved with the Swans academy since he was 13 years old, but made just a handful of appearances in the NEAFL this season due to a shin injury.

He has been under the care of the Sydney Swans medical staff and is considered by many talent experts as the best midfielder in the class."

LOL - How has Dunks Jnr not made a decision by now??

I know we don't necessarily need his type but it's a kick in the teeth if he decides not to nominate us

I'm pleased about the following line in the article:
The Demons are less likely to place a second bid after doing a deal with the Giants during the trade period to jump from pick No. 10 to 7.
It will put some pressure on Melbourne about not bidding on Hopper due to a payback to the Giants, which is just the sort of thing that the AFL warned against. Maybe they will bid for Hopper before Mills or just pass on any academy players. No one could say they didn't pick who they thought was the best player whoever they take. I hate the way everyone is pushing Melbourne to bid for Mills as the obvious thing to do.

Despite the way we have all turned against the young lad en masse I'll welcome hi with open arms if he sees the light

It does concern me that there is a Collingwood pick smack bang in the middle of where he is tipped to land in the draft..

I'm kind of happy for us to take one for the team with Mills at 3, we just need this draft to go through and hopefully things will calm down.

I know I have said this before but a much more likely scenario for the Swans will the 2015 Lions crop where I think we'll see one early teens, one late teens and one late 30s to early 40s. We'd be able to accommodate that year in year out with our concessions and that's where the value will be.

GWS on the other hand may we have a production line of first rounders coming out of the Riverina. To what extent are they producing these kids (like we clearly are as neither Heeney or Mills would be playing AFL without the academy) and to what extent are they mining a recruitment zone? I feel this will come to a head pretty quickly. GWS will argue they don't have a F/S but that doesn't really cut the mustard does it given that a decent F/S comes once every 10-12 years?

very happy with that. I thought his old man was as good a full back as there was in the comp in the late 90s and id much prefer his boy to be with us

Let me guess, he read the "Dunkley to West Coast Eagle" story? nah most probably just leaving it late for strategy reason

If Mills goes at pick 3 we have sufficient points to go as high as pick 17 without going into 2016 deficit.

All phantom drafts I've seen now have Dunks going from 25-35. Probably expect the Dogs to bid with one of their mid 20s picks.

Welcome to the Swans Josh :-)
